Presbyterian. The Central Freshyterian,
Richmond, counts up the strength of the de
nomination South, thus: Synods, 10; Presby
teries, 46; churches, 1112; ministers, 640; licen
tiates, 85; candidates, 45; communicants,
72,0! 6. To these it adds the United Bynod
communicants, whose aegreeate (beliro the
war) w as 11,448; Si nods, a; riesbvieries, 12;
churchB, lfi5; ministers, 110; licentiates, 6;
candidates, 2U. Thin the neirrerfate of ministers
in tho United Church is 611; ol licentiates, 91;
ot candidates, 65; and ol communicants, 83,821.

The General Assemblies of both branchee
meet this year in St. Louis, May 17, It is ex
pected iho Old School Presbyterian Church will
be again the scene of very animated discussion.
It is believed, that a majority will stand by the
deliverances ol lormer j ears, while the friends
of the South, and also those who are opposed to
any deliverances on subjects line loyalty and
slavery, will demand a repeal, or at-least a
modincaiion.
Lane Seminary has graduated 481 ministers
since it commenced, of Whom 411 are still livinsr,
nnd are laborir g in twenty different States ot the
Union in India, China," Palestine, Alrica, the
Vest Indies, and among the North American
Indians. The library of the Seminary now con
tains nearly 14,000 volumes.
There are now five Herman Presbyterian
Churches in the Presbytery ot N'e ark.
Methodist. The Central Centenary Com
mittee has resolved thut in view of the universal
Interest of the Church, and of the manifest signs
of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit of Grace,
we have decided to recommend that the month
of October be devoted to protracted religiofis
services throuahout tho whole extent of Ameri
can Methodism.
The city or district of Brooklyn contains at
least a dozen Methodist churches and schools,
with tho usual complement ot churches ot other
denominations.
The General Conference of the Methodist
Episcopal Church, South, assembled in New
Orleans, Wednesday, April 4, Bishop Andrew,
the senior Bishop, presiding; being assisted also
by Bishon Early. There were one hundred of
the one nundred and fifty delegates present at
the opening of the session.
The napers of the denomination continue to
report extensive revivals and large accessions to
the churches.
Congregation al. In Boston, New Haven,
Ilar'lord, and numerous towns and cities in New
England, an unprecedented degree of religious
enthusiasm is reported in the churches.
Episcopal. Bishop Stevens has arrived in
London, in improved health.
The Trustees of Trinity College, Hartford,
have elected to the presidency of that iust tntion
the liev. Dr. Payne, Rector of St. George's
Church, Schenectady.
Baptist. Tt is stated that the Baptists have
more members South than North. The whole
number of members in the Union is 1,040,000.
The colored Baptists of Charleston, 8. C,
laving been deprived of their meeting-house by
their white brethren, an effort to build a new
church for themselves Is now being made. At
a recent meetiuff ot thpir people held for tho
purpose of raising contributions to aid this
object, a number of colored women, having no
money 10 offer, brought their market baskets
filled with eggs.
Miscellaneous. A yourg American lady,
brougut up in the Christian faith, joined the
Jewish Church bt Chicueo a lew days ago.
There are now twenty ordained native
ministers of the poappl in the Sandwich Islands.
Rev. Dr. Wood received eighty-seven per
sons, seventv-flve on profession, to his church
in Geneva, N. Y., ou Sunday, April 8.
Over 9ix hundred conversions are reported
in Newark, N. J.
The Evangelist of last week reports 500 con
versions in Butfalo, N. Y. ; in Rochester, 100; in
Lima, 50; Geneva, 80; Lockport, 350; in Auburn,
225; Weston, 60; in Carlisle, Pa., 100; and laree
numhers in various other places, showing an
extraordinary state oi religious feeling through
out the country.

conflict between lords and people look place
recently in the town ol P.irkhauipsteud, England.

Washington correfpondent says that CoiiL'res
will not adjourn without rrovidiuer tor' the
organization of the next Congress on tho basis
of the exclusion ot tho Southern Representa
tives. It seems that a bill baa been iramed, or
is rather in course of (ruining, by the Judiciary
Committee of the House, wuieh will provide
certain rules of conduct to be observed by the
Clerk at the organization of the fortieth Con
gress. The Clerk's duties, as all are aware, are
pretty well defined in the Constitution, and it
there is to be any change in the same, It should
properly be otlered as an amendment to that
