A MARBIED MAX LEAVES A WIVE AND BICVKN CHILDRKH IN DANVILLE, fa., to klopk with a OIRL OW VljrTEKtl HIB KKIKtsUS V I0TIM1ZKD OUT OV xo. A runaway coupl wore arretted at the Everett Honse in this city yesterday morning by Colonel G. harr Wtone. oi ihe Detective Forco, and the story oi "man's betrayal and woman's wrong" is thus told : I Iip victim and one of the arrested parties, Eliza both Gnromaer, is the yonnvest daughter ot a hott? acepcr at Dnuvilie, t'a., aud'has boon lor yoars the pot of her family aiid tne cynosure ot vilairo eyes. All her whim wero respected, all her desires era ti lled, anil surrounded with comlort una evon olo KHiice, thin jprl, who is only fllteen, lound lite o linppy that sun dreamed not ol sorrow, thought no. ot danger. Yd. even in her mfaiicv, as it were, evil ryes shoue upon her, and the seducer was coolly and cunning weaving his tnaros about her. Ihis individual, wloiii we will now imro duce, was Adum Mock, a miller in ttio neighborhood, boaiiue a lair roputation anion? his neighbors, and ble-ced with a wifo and seven children Hck bad been lor years on inti mate terms with the parental Gurnincpr, ate nt his board, shared his love, sat by hitn in tho Lodge, aud received and divided purses with h'in. Thrown into daily contact, this head of a virtuous family east his baleful eyes on the daughter of lis triend, and wormed his way Into hor breast by the stealth v ap proaches of a practised libertine. Trott-nding to see in Elizabeth tne (terms oi musical taste, Adam excited her desire to become proiicient, si that sue uiuuoed ber father to proc.ire her a piauo and solicit his friend (who appears to be favored wiili some mu sical genius) to iiive his daughter lessons. Aow came the opportunity ot the eoduc;r. The muslo lessous afforded cause for long tcte-a-ti.toj, and through music be taucht ber love. It mutters not now to iollow this victim through tho various intricacies of Ins bad, hold, and ams,! too Bueccs-ful plot against the pin's honor, lie wooud wuli muic; he cuiolcd and fluttered; be excited bur sympathy by tales of domestic striieand bitterness ; ho invoked brr pit y ; he pieturon bow bapuy no might no m somo far-olT clime with ono so loving, so am able ai she, to sootho bis woes, to share his Joys Sho listened ; sho wept over his sotrows; she pitied his heart nude desolate by ameraud hatred ut home; she loved and she tell. Having accompli-tied tho seduction ol bis victim, and not vet tired by stttioly, Hock delibe rately planned an elopement, to which ho obtained a reluctant consent, to tho pill who hud at last awakened to the sad tact tbai her honor and her future were in uis hands. Tho seoncer, boloio leav ing, visited his lricnds and premising that he was about entering into a now speculation, obtained their ftiaortemcnts to his notes to tue amount of something over $8000, which ho had cashod at a country bank, 'thus providod witn iunds, last Saturday morning liock took his paramour secretly from her lather's bouse, and commenced his journey to the West, arriving hero on Friday, stopping at the Everett Hcuse. Unit night the twain rested in lanckd security, never dreaming that the avenger was close and hard npon their track; but yesterday morning a lriond of the girl's father deposited at tho I'olice Station the pho tographs oi the pair. The-e pictures wcro placed in i ho bands oi Officer btune, who, proceed ing up Fourth street, met the jrirl coming out ot the Everett Hou"e. She was immediately escorted to the Station, whore sho suid ber paramour had gone to laccurd's store to obtain somo Jewolry tor ber. Another trip was made by Officer Stone, who met his man on tho sidewalk and recognizing him from the photograph, requested his attention, which was nnwilii'igly given, and he was escorted to tne Sta tion to moot his victim and her lather's mend. Mr. Koih), who had traced the twain from Danville. What criminatioes and recriminations there ensued, we shall not attempt to toll. Suffice it. that the j;irl, finding that her lrienilu viouid net desort her, de cided to return to hor home with llr. K. on tho train to-night, and that Adam ilock, the iseducer, will iomain in custody until a requisition lrom tho Governor of Pennsylvania can be lorwarded here. P. 8. Hock, altergettiug a slvht and smell ol our calaboose, came to tho conclusion that ho would rather mn all the risks awaiting him at Danville than to be immured within its walls. Ue theielore pave Mr. Rebil all the money he bad with him, and itarted with that gentleman, a voluntary prisoner. JSt, Louis l'rts. '14. AMUSEMENTS. kw CHistsCT bTKtKT Theatre. Mr. Charles Rtade's works, ilk those of Dickens, are written to a rve a great sooial aud humanitarian purpose. '.Never loo Eato to Mend" was written to sotibel'ore tne public the abuses ot the prison system in Eng land, which was disgrace to a nation boasting of its civilization, its great charitable institutions, and its wealth. Tbe book of "Never Too Late to Mend" caused a groat sensation, di awing the attention of the Gov ernment to tbe evils and abuses it described, and ultimately effected great reforms, juit as Eugene tine's "Mysteres de Paris" swept away whole streets ignored by the authorities, which were dens of crime ana misery. This is a noble triumph lor works or fiction, and the drama can have no higher purpose than to follow in the same path. Hence tho great interost and success of Never Too Late to Aend.. But it was a loool success and a local interest. Here where the laws ol humanity and equality are preserved even when a prison exoludes the criminal lrom sooial llle, the evils and abuses vortrayed in A'tvtr Woo Lute to Menri lose itielr point, and It becomes revolting and tedious. iStill, as a matter of curiosity this play is attractive. It is well put on the stage, with every resource that tho scenery allows. Mordauut, who plays tlie priucipal part, was exceedingly eilect've, portraying tbe reck lewness of tho flash thief with much spirit, aud after wards the change to total reform, with much urtiatio Bkill. Hiss Orton, in tbe true spirit of art, accepted a part that was of no great importance, and would have been insignificant if she had not played it. Mr. Lewis showed some talent in the eharaoter of the "Jew," the first glimpse w have seen, Mr. Foster has not loroe enough lor "George Melding." Miss Andrews, though correct and evidontly expe rienced, has no magnetism about her, and is utterly wanting in pathos. Walnut Street Theatre Mrs. Bowers' "Oa PDille" is the only "Camille" we have now on the etaxe lull of delicacy, teudorue-s, pathos, and pas siou. Through tho long scenes ot tue last acts Bhe Interests to the last to tke last the audienoa is in tent on her every word aud movement. The low, p ambve strains ot Traviata (played like dream inuBio by Mark Hasslor) complete admirably the poetry of this beantitnl artistio doliuoation. This evening, Mrs. Bowers will give us her fine creation of ".Lady Audlov." It is tbe finest original concep tion that has been given in our dramatic world tor many years, and would even, without any ot her other achievements, give Mrs. Bowers a diploma of genius. Mr. McCollom is entirely free from rant and man nerism, lie has a fine vuioe, and a handsome and expressive face. He was received with great tavor by the audience. Lady Aud Icy will be plaved but once. All who have seen u, and all who have not seen it, should remember that this eharaoter is a great com bination of intelligence, soul, and artistio finish. Arch Street Theatre The Inconitant; or, Wine Workt Wondtr$ wih be the porlormance of this evening. ''Young Mirabul" ia a part that Mr. Murdoch alone ean play. The scene of the "Red Burgundy" is electric, and produces on the audieno s magnet io eflect, carrying ic away into the reality of tear, ioy, and sorpriso, which he so wonderlulfv portravs. The play will be put on tho stage with the elegance which distinguishes tnis theatre, and will be cast with the elite of the company. fAoADKMY or Music The ICavols give ns this evening, amongst their other brilliant performances. Jmkotho "Bratilian Ape" being plaved by Paul Martiuettl, a wonuerlul achievement. Mad'lle Peplt charms the imagination in a ballet entitled The &tur ol the Mine. FINANCIAL.
