evening, March 22, the llev. Henry Ward lleecher is
announced to deliver his great lecture on recon
struction" at the Aoadotny of Mnsic, under the
auspices of the Young Men's Christian Association.

Mr. Beecher will be followed by Mr. Gouirh, on tho

MATTERS OVER THE KIVEE.
Thk Union League. At the recent
regular meeting of the Union League in Oam
den, the following resolutions were adopted:
Resolved, That this League disapprove the course
of President Johnson in vetoing the Freedman's
Jlnreau Bill.
Resulted, That we equally condemn the weak
kneed manner in Which six Union Senators quailed
under the tear of Executive displeasure and failed
to sastala their first exprested opinion.
Resolved, That this League conaernn Hon. Wil
liam A Newell, for voting with the negative noon
Mr. Stevens' resolntioa of Reconstruction, oflered
in tbe House ot Representatives, on February 20,
and that the Secretary be instructed to forward a
copy of these resolutions to Mr Newell.
Resolved, lhat we hereby tender onr thanks te
Hon. John F. Starr, of the First Congressional
Distriot, tor the firm stand he has takon upon the
.ques'ions which have agitated Congress during the
present session.
Resolved, That copy of these resolutions be for.
warded to oaoh of the Union Lent uos throughout
the State of Mew Jersey : also, to the Representa
tive of the First District, Hen. John F. Starr.
The New School-house. The bill autho
rizing tbe Board of Education ot Camden to
borrow $20,000, for the purpose of erecting a
new school house in Middle Ward, has passed
the Legislature. So toon as tbe necessary
arrangements can be made, therefore, the Board
will commence operations. The educational
interests of Camden demand another good and
convenient house, and the erection of tbe one
under contemplation will 1 units u the deside
ratum. Religious. There are about eight persons
do be immersed in the First Baptiut Church In
Camden to-morrow evening; and the ordinance
by immersion will also be performed in some of
1he other Baptist churches.

which passed through the destructive nre In Chesnut
street last night. The Hafe was In our efflee, So. 607,
which building was entirely destroyed. The bate was lu
a warm place, as you may well suppose, and was red
hot when taken out of the embers. We are well satisfied
with the result of this trial, and find our books, papers,
and some ten thousand dollars In money almost as per
fect as when pnt in the Sate. Nothing Is injured, if we
except the leather bindings of the bsokf, which are
steamed; the money and papers are as good as ever.
