expected to discover:

genera of the same lauuly. A new (tonus was
lound, belonging to to family of tho Scomberoaocen,
which he called Lvmnobelnna, and which was dis
tinguished from the o hers by having the dorsal and
anal tins greater, and the eandal rouuded. As in
the genus lielona, the maxillar are equal.
"borne time afterwards we caught a young one of the
new genus, having the lower nazillar much greater
than the upper one, and, in this point of view, some
what resembling the other genus of the same family,
the Ilemirampkus Jirazitiensm, inhabiting the sea,
and lound on almost all the coast ot Brazil.
"At ilanaos we collected one hundred and fifty

1'roftssor found s.xty-eight spaoiet, and we hope to
find a greater nuinoer in the oight barrels not yet
opened.
"The collection made np to now ensists of nine
hundred and seventy species, of which more than
seven hundred are new. Imagine the sarprie and
pleasure 01 frofeasor Agassis 111 view of so great a
result, who, wbon entering tne Amazonas, consi
dered himself lortnuate should he find two hundred
and fitly species.
"The results that we obtained at the first points
made us believe that the great river possessed many
distinct faunie ot the lcnthyoloi;ioal prerines; how
ever, when at our two last we explored sorao
igarapei (smaller nvors) and lakes, distant lrom one
another not more than twelve hundred yards, .we
saw then that the number was extraordinary. The
collection of so great a number of speeies in a tew
places, and during only three months, surprises the
more when we reflect that in 1810 Captain Wilkes
collected only six hundred in a voyage round the
globe, with three ships, and lasting loar years.
"Fifteen new genera have been established by tho
Froleuor, embracing tho fishes that live by prefer

rating two of these genera into families, in conse
quence of their geneial character. Some be.onging
to the Gobiiidei and others 10 Cyprinodentti. Tnoso
flmhes are known by the name of Amor; and are
found only at the west part of the island of Marajo,
at the place l ay purn. I bis circumstance makes us
believe that the Amort determine, approximately,
tke point to which the waters of the ocean reach in
the Amazonas.
"The most interesting genns, however, in the
opinion 01 the Professor, is one discovered by as in
Lake Hyanuary, opposite this oity. It eamo, so to
say, to strengthen tae aniea of the family, serving
as intermediate between others rather separated, as

the name 01 tho Emperor, Gcophagua Pedroinut,
and of wbioh he made a complete study.
"The configuration et tho head is very cnrloas in

the Mexican question:
Blre The Corps Lerislatif is happy to observe,

strengthened as it has been by yonr inter

meeting of the English and Preach fleets, is
an additional pledge of that peace the preserva

of France, and honors tho wisdom and pru

with the Emperor the firm hope that a rocon-

Tbe Theatre Francais iust now devotes all its
attention to the remarkable production of M.

amicably arranged, and M. Ponsard has con

ot Madame lallien, as vi ell as tnatot i allien biu

stituted. The most important character in the
piece, however, is that of (General IJocho, which
will be performed by M. Leroux. One of tho
scenes, already highly spoken of,is a curious one,
representing the interior ot a member ot tho
convention's house, which will reproduce wlih
the most scrupulous accuracy the lodgings of
