OF TUS
CARSON COLD MINING COMPANY
OF
NOJITII CAliOLINA.
T Land of this Company eonslsta of 120 Acres, In
ecklenbnrg county. North Carolina, ih miles from the
town of Charlotte, on a branch of Sugar Creek, which
stream furalrhet goed water-pewer for grinding the ores.
This Mine was first opened in. 18.' by a man named Car
son, .who worked It successfully for a number of years
He died In the town of Charlotte, In 1846, worth over
hall a million dollars.
1 wo shafts have been sunk on this property, one of
them feet, the other 60 feet, on different veins,
averaging from two to three feet In thickness, which
veins still continue on down Increasing In width
and richness. These shafts aro In good order, and ore
can be readily taken out at anytime. Other veins have
been discovered on this property, and tested, and proved
to be very rich In gold. The arcs of this mine are known
as the brewn ore, and very rich, yielding readily $1
perbushcL This Is believed to be one of the b, stand
most certain mines In the State, on account of the abun
dance and quullty ot the ore, and the cae with which It
is obtained and reduced. This property has been
worked by Major Z A. Grlor from 1840 to the breaking
'out of the war. This Company have purchased this
property, and Intend to erect machinery and ant the
mines In Immediate opeiatlon. Tbe tsany advantages
of this mine over the mines ot Colorado and Nevada can
hardly be estimated. I t.ls more readily reached, and
haslabundance of fuel, with cheap labor, it can be
worked all the year, and not, as In the case of Colorado
and Nevada, be compelled to Ho Id a for three or lour
months In consequence of tlie severity of the winter.
I his mine having been worked tor a long time proved
to be a rich paving one. We do not, therefore, have to
incur tne risk there is In an undeveloped property, but
can count on large and Immediate returns on the Invest
ments. Having an ore thatrcadty yields ten dolliirapcr
bushel, some estimnte can be made of the value ot tills
property. With the present Imperfect system of mining
In this locality, and absence ot proper machinery, tea
tons ot this oio can be taken aut dally from every short
opened. Estimating, say tl.'teen bustle's to tbe ton, the
daily yield will be fifteen hundred dollars ltom one shaft,
allowing three hundred dollars per day for expenses. The
net product will be a 1200 per day i counting 300 working
days to the year, the yearly proceeds will be 30,0oo,
which yield can be largely increased by extending tbe
wotks. This Is considered a very low estimate of the
capacity of this mine by experienced miners ot that
locality. The Assayer of the United State Mlut at
Charlotte, in speaking of this property, soys it has few
equals In productiveness In that country, and with
proper management and machinery the above product
can be doubled.
