A lady'i toilet now tells of wool wool of every
grade, pile of every style, from tbo silvery Cah
Inerc, the lustroas Alpaca, and the fine Merino,
to the exquisite soft wools of improved mutton
lirectls. The garb of pastoral simplicity, once
worn by tnnto emblems, of gentleness and Inno
cence, now adorns the impersonation of beauty
and purity ! From hood to hose, from b tltnoral
to bal.e, excelling thoso soft textures in bloom
ing beauty, and radiant with charms tbat Cotton
cannot give, tie belle of the present day stands
lorth a living cxamplo of the superior houltbful
ness of wool as an article of clothing. Is this not
inggestive of a more glowim? picture than tbat
drawn by the "Annates d'tiygnu " It savs :
"In Kngland, where the children go half nuked ;
Where the servants do their work in the morning
With their arms naked up til their moulders, and
where the women are always l.glillv clothed, pul
monary consumption exists in enormous propor

The same authority says that this disease has
only prevailed in France since the women wore
their hair a la Titia, their urtus naked, and bosom
n a great degree uncovered.
It would bo a dillicult tusk to describe the
present styles of woollen goods, and. combina
tions of silk and wool, and other mixed woollen
fabrics, made lor woman's wear. It is said by
merchants and manufacturers tliat twice tUo
quantity of woollen goods used ten years ago is
now worn by ladies. In the sviminur, poas imer
webs of berage and berage do laincs are worn,
and found to bo cooler and more comfortable
during the heat of summer, and under the ex
haustion of exercise, than cotton goods. Flannels
are multiplying rapidly-plain, figured, and
tun ed, and Increasing in beauty and aoftnoss.
Hosiery, lormerly black, is now made into a mill
tiplimy of styles and a varie.y of colors, intended
to please the eye, as well as to proinoU) the com-

the delicate texture ol dress from the contaniin i
tion of the sidewalk, without exK)Htire of gar
ments of ghostly hue, stainless to be sure, but
cold und colorless.
Then there are the do baizes in groat variety,
mixed goods, but cheap and serviceab'e; the
monsseline dc laines of American mannfacture,
rich enough for daughters of princes; instres of
ftilhs und wool; poplins of similar material, but
heavier and dearer; Coburgs and other merinocs
tn variety and tloaking cloth, light, soft, and
fine, of long wools; or else heavy and coarse
with suit, lur-like nap cf extreme length; or,
perhaps, a close-textured, solid, line fabric of
the best merino. These latter goojs are of every
imaginable style, the nrevail'r. teudeucy being
tusotl, matrons, rong-woolled goods.
As civilization and education a.lvaner, and
people learn the principles of hygiene in l'.io school
of experience, it might bo expected that such a
clothing reform would be Inaugurated. Heneo,
with the thick soles and high boots, and other
Improvements, in place of various barbarisms of
female dress, have come, in these healthful and
beautiful labrics, Intended for the clothing of
lad its; and health and t.ishion have, for onee

at no Parisian milliner recklessly and proratiely

the poet of a hundred years ago will be ful

The undermined committee, appointed to exmine the
property ol tlie McClintock Unnerve Jil Company, rcspoot-
fully report:
That they have thoronfrhly examined the John Mo( 'Un
lock Ketervc, altttatd at the junction nf Oil Creek and
Cherry llun. The pro(erty a located on a beautiful biutf,
adtuirabiy adapted to bonng. There are tlx well Aula lied
and in progn'it. One well, which had been yielding about
forty Parrels dally, had suddenly increased to one hundred
and forty barrels, and was flowing at about this rate on
our vl It. Another well, represented at yield iw seventy
five barren, w pumping at the rate of eighty to ninety
barrels, and the tntelliKent ao pert nten dent and lessee Waia
sanguine m tlie eapei tattoo that In a short time It would
tui ome a flowing well, and give much lartw yield.
These two wells are but a few weeks old, amd have every
Indication of becoming very lame wella.
Three other wells are In pnx-ens of boring, and will be
finished on or before ttie flrstof January; and from the
Indications, wo believe they wlil all be larirely prodiieilve.
One other well was just commenced, and will be pushed
rapidly to completion.
The whIe of the property, except the half acre on whleh
the homektead stands, has been leased, and it in te hands
Of experienced and energetic men, who wl 1 spare no paint
or eipense to develop tlie property in the best manner, and
In the shortest possible time.
The derrleka, houses, engines, tools, cte , are all new,
and Uie best cf their kind, aud In excellent order, giving
evidence of the ottreful supervision of the owners of the
.eases.
We have no doubt that the Company's lute-rent one -fourth
royulty now about flftv-flve barren, purduy, which
at 910 It $W0, will be greatly Increased by the tlrst U
January next; and as the land will admit of twenty well
being bored upon It, a good Idea may bo formed of the
liiimenre yield wlichwiU result whoa all are finished.
The homeiuad occupiej half an acre from which Uie
Company will receive three fourths of the oi If tin y work
It, and whli h your committee strongly recommends; It
would not be surprising ifthts intercut alone sh'Nild beforo
the expiration ot a 3 ear, realise an Income of several hun
dred barrels ptr iay.
The entire property consists of a little over fonr acres,
with a superior dwelling and good barn upon It. From
Its proxlmliy to Cherry Itun, and Its peculiar 1. cuiboi,
together with the feet tbat the property narf sot ben found
to be afTicted by other wells in the immedta'e iiflhbor
