GEORGE PENNOCK, WILLIAM FRENCH. January 4 wed.&fr 6w Xfje <2sasette* PHILADELPHIA, MONDAY EVENING, JANUARY 14. mi Mr. Fesno, A Philadelphia paper some time ago, in formed the public that a new drama, found ed on the failure of the negociation at Paris, was in preparation, and would, it was ex pefted, be brought on the stage, in the course of the ensuing feafpn—l have had the pleasure of peruling tne piece alluded to, and although I cannot give to it the praise of true dramatic excellence, yet I think, con sidering the Subjeft, it merit iuffi cient to recommend it to an audience. Claiming neither the charafter of sparkling wit nor profound Sublimity, it consists of but a few Scenes, wj-itten in a chaste and im prelfive style, the denouement of which is calculated to exhibit in true colours the vil lainous policy which diftated the conduft of the ate/j bifliop. As the Theatrical season it to commence the beginning of next month, it is hoped the enemies to that nefarious tranfaftion will give Support to a performance which under takes to heighten its oclium—At all times the drama might be made the School of political and moral virtue, but on the present oc casion, nothing is more calculated to ex pand and invigorate the energies of patriot ism, than puhlic national- Speftacles—and the managers, if their patriotism is not tain ted with French influence, will surely give it ample encouragement.
