Frozen to Death in a Storm.
MANDAN, Dak., Noy. 25.—Two chil
dren, named Meisel, were frozen to
death 10 miles north of here. Tbey
went out to look for cattle, were lost in
a storm and were afterward found dead.
Two brothers, named Sims, were frozen
to death while returning from work.
Two Boys at One Shot.
ALTOONA, Pa., Nov. 25. —About one
o'clock yesterday afternoon a young son
of City Solicitor Dively, while playing
with a pistol, shot a companion named
Clarence Rickabaugh through the left
arm, inflicting an ugly wound. Young
Diyely, as soon as ho discovered what
he had done, dropped his pistol and ran
away from the injured boy. Later in
the afternoon Diyely returned to his
home, and it was discovered that he
had also been shot through his left
hand. He held the muzzle of the revol
ver in the palm of his hand, and the
weapon was accidentally discharged,
the contents passing through his hand
and also through young Rickabaugh's
arm, and lodged in a fence near by.
Their ages are nine years.
Attacked by a Boar.
FLEETWOOD, Pa., Nov. 25.—An ex
citing and what will prove a fatal light
took place yesterday in North Withall,
Lehigh county, between Abraham Ja
cobs, a rich farmer and an infuriated
boar. Jacob was trying to drive the
animal when it turned upon him. Jacob
defended himself with a club but the
boar knocked him down, bit him severe
ly about the legs and arms and then
gored him in the abdomen, inflicting a
wound nine inches long, with its tusks.
A bulldog came to the rescue and a
furious fight between the boar
and the dog over the senseless form of
the farmer. Neighbors attracted by
the noise, arrived and shot the boar.
Jacobs was carried to his home in a dy
ing condition.

.ng, Pa., Nov. 25.—Two years
O o John Beck, aged about 50, came to
Reading from Lebanon county, and
Muted an upper room in the St. Cloud
Hotel. Here he lived by himself in a
very miserly way, and was frequently
not seen for a week, when he would be
going about the city picking up a few
pennies by filing saws. He was looked
upon as wretchedly poor, and people
frequently gave him a few cents to help
him along. The other night he was
seen crawling down stairs on hands
end feet. Five days ago he was strick
en with paralysis, and helpless and
speechless, with nothing to eat, he lay
in the ioom all this time, ne was
greatly emaciated, lie was taken to
St. Joseph's Hospital, but he cannot re
cover. Two large store boxes and a
pair of old blankets were the only ar
ticles found in his room. In his pock
ets was found $27, and two other wal
lets on his person contained nearly
S3OO. Papers found 0;i him show that
be has $1,700 at interest. He frequent
ly ate nothing for a day, unless food
was given to him.
A Silent Bell.
Something very, very sad happened
near the corner of Monroe avenue and
Randolph street yesterday. A very
meaty man had met three friends at
that point and stopped to tell a couple
of itones. A young man, who was a
stranger to a'l, was leaning against the
frontfof a store, beariug the general ap
pearance of one who knew all that was
worth knowing before he cut his baby
teeth, and was now hanging unto life
because death refused to come. Pretty
soon the meaty man got off some pun,
and the hand of the weary young man
was lifted up and the tones of his chest
nut bell rar.g out on the mornine air.
•Was that you ?' asked the story tell
er as he wheeled around.
'Yaas.'
4 Did 1 get off something old ?'
•Veary old.'
Beg your pardon, Bir. I will now get
off something entirely new for your
benefit.'
He seized the weary traveler, whirled
him around, and a stout calf-skin boot
was planted against him four times in
succession.
'lf there's anything old about that
just ring two bells on me,' said the
kicker as he ceased his labors.
It must have beeu a new thiDg. The
young man had tears in his eyes as he
steered himself around the nearest cor
ner, and the sharpest ears caught no
melody from his little bell.— Detroit
