We wish the suffer ing lady a speedy recovery. -Mrs. Sarah Zeigler has put out a a fine sign in front of her bakery on Penn street. C. W. Albright painted the same with his usual skill. —A large amount of Phosphate is be ing hauled from Coburn,by the farmers of Penns ann Brush valleys. Phosphate is becoming a popular fertilizer. —Mr. Calvin Meyer, of Belief on te, was in town on Tuesday, looking after political matters. He and his brother, Prof. W. T. Meyer paid us a pleasant visit. —Mr. Sol. Ettlinger, of Woodward, received a car load of peaches on Wed nesday forenoon, which he sold almost as fast as he could haul them from the station. -i . ' —Now that the ladies are attired in "Mother Hubard" dresses, the gentle men ought to look around for "Father Hubbard" costumes for the sake of be ing in style. Tomlinson's departure the mem bers of that charge are making efforts to secure another pastor. —Miss Ida Musser and Mr. F. October the 4th is the last day to pay taxes. Mr. Byron lloutz, of Coburn sta tion, barely escaped from a serious ac cident in beiug thrown from oue of the cars while the train was in motion. The managing com mittee have worked hard to make this a day of genuine pleasure aud good feeling and hereby extend a hearty in yitatian to the public to attend. —Miss Winnie, daughter of B. F. Reighard, of Light Street, Columbia Co., Pa., and a consin to Mrs. B. F. Kister, of this place, is at present the guest of that lady. She is an accomp lished seamstress, and expects to follow her trade in town provided she can get the patronage of the public. —A large circle of relatives and friends gathered at the residence of Mrs- Sarah Harter, on Wednesday evening of last week and gave an en joyable party in honor of the 64th an niversary of her birthday. The lady wat agreeably surprised and deeply af fected by the kindnes a of her friends. —The Granger's great picnic at William'B Grove Pa., which had be gun on Monday, Aug. 25th, was ended on Friday, the 29th,on which day Gen eral Butler closed the festivities by a fifty-minutes speech which was deliver ed to a crowd of about 10,000 people. The attendance throughout is reported to have been very large. —John Rockey, of Cedarville, 111., Geo. W. Swartz, of Lewistown, Pa., Millard Mechtley, of Beaver Springs, Pa., and Judge Frank of Rebersburg, were some of our callers last week, aud enlisted as subcribers for another year for the JOURNAL, making their orders more forcible by cash remittances. FOOT MASHED.— Thursday morning while endeavoring to jump on a moving freight train at Clinton avenue, Charles Spangler, of Rebersburg, made a mis step and, falling with one of his feet on the ra'l, had it severely mashed. Dr. Watson,the company's physician, gave the wounded man necessary attention. The accom modation of street lights on dai k fall and winter evenings cannot be valued too much. —During the heavy thunderstorm, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, the old cherry tree in front of 'Squire Eisenhuth's residence on Main street, was blown down. Several other trees in town met the same fate. Somo of the shutters off the old Ev. church were torn of and c.irried acrosss the creek by the powerful blast. A heavy rain continued to fall for about fifteen minutes. —An incorrect statement occurred in an item among the locals of last week's JOURNAL, which we hasten to recall. It was to the effect, that the •Centre Democrat , published at Belle fonte, had changed proprietors. The information was had from a private source and proved wrong. On last Thursday the carpenters erected the steep princi pal timbers for the Gothic roof, which is to adorn the building. A crowd of people watched the somewhat danger ous and risky proceedings with upturn ed faces and anxious eyes. But every thing went on smoothly and without the slightest accident. The brick lay ers expect to have all the stone work completed by the end of this week, and the roof will be ready for the sheeting and slate by next week. John Tomlinson's valedictory sermon at Aaronsburg on Sunday e - ening, was a recapitulation of his la bors during the past 10 years on this charge, and was attentively listeued to by a crowded house. His text was tak en from the twentieth chapter of the Acts, comprising the 18, 19, 20, 21, and the 25, 26 and 27th verses. He devid ed bis subjects into four parts, namely self-vindication, self commendation, and the matter and manner of his preaching while pastor of his church. His remarks were marked by the strict confinement to the bare truth and by the sincerity of expression so charact eristic of his preaching. He closed his impressive address by bidding the Aa ronsburg people and congregation an affectionate farewell. On Monday morning he and his fam ily departed for Abbottstown, York Co., Pa., his new field of labor. Our best wishes and sincere regiets accom pany them. —The editor and wife are indebted to Miss Elmira Stover, of Penns Creek, for a large and beautiful bouquet,which she presented to us.
