—The Dtmocratic meetii g on Fii
day evening was a large and spirited
affair. The spacious Town Hall was
crowed to ovetflowing. The Democ
racy of the valleys tinned out in force,
showing that they are fu'ly alive to the
important issues before the people.
The prominent gentlemen advertised
as speakers came to time. Hon. W.

is a fine specimen of a full-grown,well
developed gentleman, a ready and for
cible speaker. lie analized and treated
in a plain, practical manner the tela
tion and action of the two great parties
on the flumes law and apportionment
bills, showing that the Republican
members of the Board of Sinking Fund
Commissioners deliberately violate the
wholesome provisions of the former,
and that the Republican Senators fla
grantly defy the plain mandate of the
constitution on the apportionment
question. Mr. Meyer's 8pe a ch was
well received by the large audience as
sembled.
Hon. J. 11. Fow, of Philadelphia,
followed Mr. Meyer's. He is a gentle
maiiuf much information, cxoelleulcul
ture and an eloquent speaker. For up
wards of an hour he kept the meeting i
spell bound by a masterly speech, show
lug what were the true issues of the
present campaign and how they were
dodged and evaded by Republican !
speakers and papers. Mr. Fow made j
one of the ablest political speeches ev
er delivered in Centre county and our !
people were highly delighied with it.
C. Sehmitz, Esq., of New Jersey,
entertained the meeting for sometime
with a German speech Vuphte with wit
and httritor. His points were well tak
en and ha kept the audience In exccll-
