Wolfe, the leader of the In dependent Republicans, says: "The situation is about this* If the Democrats have horse sense and name a good ticket, one that is progressive and up with the times, they will defeat Beaver and the rest of the Cameron men; but if they do not place a good ticket in the field the Stalwarts will win and the result will be the disiutegra tiou of the Democratic party and the formation of a new party in this State, composed of the best elements of the two prominent parties as they now stand." Democrats, listen to this ! A very trilling thing is needed next fall for the Democrats to carry the State —only a little "horse sense." We hope the.y will look about them and pick up this desirable article. We will assist them with our ola DEMOCRAT spy-glass.— Northumberland Co. Democrat. ON THE WAR PATH. Thirty-live white people were killed. * The Indians are scattering into small bands and making for the Chirlcahua mountains. Colonel Forsyth, with his entire command, is in pursuit. A Tucson dispatch says: at a mass meeting of several thousand citizens held to-night it was unanimously deci ded that the following be sent, and it was iaimediatel y wired as an open let ter to the president and his cabinet and to both houses of congress: "During the rejoicings incident to tlie grand military display announced to take place at Fortress Monroe, we beg to offer you as a skeleton to sit at your banquet the fact that nearly 100 of our pioneers have, within a few days been wantonly murdered in cold blood by the devilish Apaches whom a cruel and a mistaken policy permits to sur vive their crimes. If some small por ii ).i of expenditure incurred in your grand display could be directed to such measure ns would preclude the proba bility of an increase in the list of our murdered dead, we could send you u greeting of gratitude and cheer, ill place of the message revealing our sor row, helplessness and our desolation.
