He was educated and graduated at
Saint John's College, Fordham, New
York, and was by profession a lawyer.
He served as a member of the state
legislature of S >uth Ctrolina for seven
yea r s from 18s8 to 1855, having been
four times re ejee'ed, and was elected
to the Forty-sixth congress as a dem
ocrat, receiving 20,568 votes against

republican.

side over the 24th judicial district, con
sisting of the com ths of Potter, Cam
eron, Elk and Clinton, unless he

head of the court. Judge Hucher,
who fotmerlv presided over the courts
of Miftlin. is now in the 2Ph district,
including the counties of Union, Sny
der and J iniata. The new apportion
ment hill fixes the number of judicial
