Sim of Tuesday says: It is related that when Kemble was a candidate for United States Senator, his agent bought four Lancaster Co. members for if I*2,(XX) and a commission. The agent cheated one of the members out of bis share, and be brought suit to recover it. Kemblo swore him off. When Kemble withdrew, Cameron was to foot iiis expenses, and when the bill of items was put in it had this cue: "Four Lancaster County mem- Ijers and commission, $13,000." "My God," said Cameron, "I paid for those members once before."—Sdins grnai\ proposes Gov. Car. tin as a compromise candidate for U nited States Senator, and we second the proposition with all our heart. In the person of the great War Governor the old keystone would have a Seuator that would in an exceptional -and emi nent degree unite ail the qualities de riable in a representative in our first legislative bodj. Let all parties and factions rise above hide-bound parti sanship and elect a man so entirely competent to represent and serve the interests of our great commonwealth. —Not often does a "kunststiek' please every body, no matter how well executed. But tho really fine monu ment recently built by A. C. Musser and "our Bill," is absolutely the de light of all that have seen it. Don't fail to go and take a look at it at Dei ninger & Musser's Shops. IULL'S VBO STABLE SICILIAN HAITI RBNKWER Is a scientific combination of some of the most powerful restorative agents in the vegetable kingdom It restores gray bail to its original color. It makes the scalp white and clean. It cures dandruff and humors, and fulitug-out of the hair. It furnishes the nutritive principle by which the hair is nourished and supported. It tne hair moist, so'l and glossy, and is unsurpassed as a hair dressing. It is the most economical preparation ever offered to the public, as its effects remain a long time, making only an occasional application neces sary. It is recommended and used by eminent medical men, and officially endorsed by the State Assaver of Massachusetts. The pop ularity of Hall's Ilalr Renewer lias Increased with the test of many years, both in this coun try and in foreigu lands, and it is now known aiid used iu ali the civilized countries of the world. Fori SALS BY ALL DKALEII9. Texas comes to the front with an of ficial maj >rity of 103,20) for Hancock and English. This gives the Demo cracy a majority of about ten thousand oa the popular vote. The injustice of tbo present Con gressional apportionment in Pennsyl vania was pointed out very clearly by Senator Wallace the other night. He said: "Thero are 350,(X)0 Democratic voters in Pennsylvania represented in Congress by eight Democrats, while 375.000 K epubllcans will have eighteen members." This is one of the great est disadvantages the Democrats have to contend against. With a just ap portionment Pennsylvania would be rep resented by at loasttwelve Democratic Congressmen, and in othei States where the same gerrymandering meth ods have been resorted to a re-aupcint ment based on the actual vote of the parties would largely increase the Democratic representation. But noth ing like justice may be expected in this matter as long as apportionments are made by Republicans.—JEc. With the electiouof Howell E. Jack son, straight democrat, to the United States senate from Tennessee there is an end of the hopes of organising that body in which the republicans have so long indulged. This result will make the next senate stand: Democrats, 37; republicans, 37, and 2 independents, David Davis of Illinois and William Mahoue of Virginia. David Davis who acted with the democrats on all importaut questions since entering the senate will not help the republicans to destroy their orgauizttioo. Nor need the republicans nurse any allusion in regard to General Mahone. The dem ocratic organization of the senate is safe for the next two years at least. GENERAL WEAVFR, late greenback candidate for president, took occasion to say on the floor of the house of rep resentatives at Washington the other day, that southern bull-dozing is as nothing compared with the intimida tion of voters practiced by the repub lican mill-owners and manufacturers of M assachusetts. According to this it would seem that Weaver's engage ment to play second fiddle to the re publican managers has been termina ted. SENATOR ALEXANDER stands well in the seuate, notwithstanding the fact that he is on the minority side. He is a member of the committees on Finance, Federal Relations, Judiciary and Apportionment, and is the only Senator that is on four such Important committees. Representative Gepliait has been placed on the following committees: Railroads, Public Buildings, Pensions, Gratuities, Manufacturing and Vice and Immoralities. Mr. Murray is on the committees of Insurance, Geologi cal Survey, Local Judiciary, and Man ufacturing. President Hayes lias nominated Stanley Matthews, of Ohio, for Asso ciate Judge of the Supreme Court of will have another Ohio man and politi cal judge on the Supreme bench. There is DO perceptible change in the situation at Ilarrisburg. No possible telling who may be Anally hit upon for U. S. Senator, and even guess work has lost its interest. The regulars and the "kickers" are be coming more bit ter over each other every flay, while the Democrats hold together well. The end can Dot yet be seen. Allkn Campbell, who has receiv ed the certificate of election to Con gress which Cannon, the Mormon, ex pected to get, is a staunch Democrat and is known as the Utah bonanza king. He is said to be worth 82,00\- OJO. lie is a bitter foe of polygamy. The New York Sun is of the opin ion that if the pension business is not ason better regulated it will bankrupt the nation. Millions are distribute that go to undeserving parties, secured through fraudulent methods. ■ A Ntfw treatment. The Golden Elixir of Life. Wonderful Cures.
