No PAPER NEXT WEEK.—In order to enable "all hands" to celebrate the anniversary of American Independ ence no paper will be issued from this office next week. This is a custom ob served ly all country newspapers. We wish all our readers a "glorious Fourth." (ione to grass—the farmers. The grape crop promises to be a good one. Summer is now upon us in all its in tensity. Dastardly dogs are killing sheep in Fulton. Bold burglers are plying their vo cation in Franklin county. A velocipede rider, "on wheels," w:ts seen on onr streets the other day. Judge Nelson is Chairman ol the Democratic county committee of Ful ton. Smokers and chewers can get TIIE TIEST cigars and tobacco, in town, at Crouse's "Resort." Rev. Dr. Geisenheiner will preach in the Lutheran church, on Sabbath next, at 10A o'clock. If you want neat job work (lone, as cheap as in the city, call at the GA ZKTTE Office. The Democracy of Fulton county re fused to entertain the proposition for the adoption of the so-called "Craw ford County System." Sensible action. Farmers don't forget to call on SMIRKS & JORDAN and see the Great Western Lever Hay and Grain ilake. All the sections of the Pittsburg and Connellsville railroad have been let, and we learn that the work is pro gressing fiinely. Everybody smokes aud chews Crouse's cigars and tobacco—Resort: .Sign of the Indian in front of store, on Pitt street. HORSE STOLEN.— On Wednesday night of last week, a roan horse valued at fl.so, was stolen from the pasture-field of Mr. Samuel Boor, in Cumberland Valley tp. The Right Reverend Bishop Ste vens, of the Episcopal Church, will preach and hold Confirmation in the Court House, on Thursday evening, the first of July. Service to commence at half past seven o'clock. Family Bibles, Methodist, Luther an, Reformed, Presbyterian, Episcopal and Catholic hymn and Prayer books always on hanJ at the Inquirer Book Store. 2w NEW QUARTERS. —G. H. Spang, Esq., has removed his law office to his elegant new apartments, in the GA ZETTE building. Mr. Spang has an office now that is a model. # We would call the attention of the farmers to the special notices of SHI RES A JORDAN, who manufacture and sell all the best farm implements in the county. Capt T. 11. Lyons, who was severely injured while acting as appraiser of damages on the line of the Pittsburgand Oounellsville railroad, in Londonderry tp., has been brought homo and iscon valescent. The stone work of the court house steps is completed, and ready for the iron railing. When the work is fin nished, it will be a neat and substan tial improvement, and one much need ed. # One of the "organs" of rude radical- Ism, in this county, says "the soul of John Brown is maching on." It was "manifest in the flesh" of burly, black bureauites in Washington, the other day, at the city election. All th 3 magazines and pictorial pa pers can lie had at the Inquirer Book .Store. The new York Ledger, New York Weekly or Saturday Night will be sent to any address post paid on re ceipt of eight cents. 2w TAKE THE PAPER.—A lively po litical campaign is opening. Let our l'riends see that no man, rich or poor, is without a copy of the GAZETTE. The terms for the campaign are so low that all can take the paper. See our terms. The Buckeye Grain Drill with zigzag hoes, warranted superior to all others. No clogging of the hoes when you have top dressing, weeds, or anything of the kind to contend with. Will sow all kinds of grain and grass seed. Price $90.00 at the shops of SHIRKS A JOR DAN, Bedford, l*a. The Democrats of Fulton county have given the lie to the radical rail ings about "soldiers standing no chance for office in the Democratic party." They have nominated gallant J)emocratic soldiers for the best offices in the county. Get up another false hood, ye "organs." BITTEN BY A DOG. —One day last week, Mr. John Kittle, of Todd town ship, was very badly bitten by his dog. Trie dog was lying on the porch, and Mr. K. WAS passing into the the house when the dog sprang at him catching him by the hands lacerating them very much.— Fulton Democrat. RAILROAD AGITATION.— The people of Morrison's Cove and Hollidaysburg are agitating the question of a railroad from the latter place to Pattonsville. There seems to be a reasonable pros pect for its early commencement. Jly the way, what has become of the Bed ford and Bridgeport railroad ? Has the mhtter entirely died out? Who can answer ? A NUMBER of gentlemen residing in this vicinity, have recently visited Tennessee, with a view of removiug to that State, if pleased with the count ry and |>eople. Some of them have purchased farms there and intend mak ing it their permanent %ome. They report the Tennesseans to be a gener ous and hospitable people and declare that they were agreeably surprised in finding them gentlemen in every re spect, instead of murders and outlaws as they have been studiously represent ed to be by the Radical press. LAV REPRESENTATION.—The ques tion of lay representation is the all absorbing question in the Methodist church, all over the country, at this time. The friends of representation appear to have the thing pretty much their own way, for so far as the votes have been received, they have been cast by an overwhelming majority in favor of the laity. The church at this place voted on the question with the annexed result: For lay representation, 40, Against, " 31. ABOUT GUIDE BOARDS.—The law re quires guide boards to lie placed at the forks of every road, and it is the duty of constables to report to the court ca ses where the law has not been com plied with. This is a useful prevision and beneficial to all classes of people. Nothing is more unpleasant than not to know which of two roads to take, especially when a long distance from a place where inquiries can be made. — Many townships in this county are en tirely deficient in this respect, We would respectfully call the attention of road supervisors to this subject. One of our exchanges gives the fol lowing schedule of prices for the bene fit of those who need and seek after "puffs." For a modest puff—three juleps. A tolerable good one-one box of cigars. A good one—one pair of boots. A very good one—one vest and two shirts. A splendid one—one cloth coat. A perfect socdolager—one whole suit. POICKRY. —She tripped along with ribbon- flying, from a bran new hat she'd just been buying. She held her head up very high, and thought, "Well, aint I just old pie?" An orange peel lay on the track ; she tripped, and flat upon her back lay Miss Maria Pervins. The fall did not deprive her of her wit, for blithe she walked along the street of Pitt, till she came to where attractions new, bade her stop and gaze at Number Two. Bhe walk ed into the store so sweet and said, "Aw! aint your goods both nice and neat ; there's not a place to buy like IRVINE'S." FULTON COUNTY.— The Democrats of Fulton connty held their nomina ting convention on the 19th ult, and placed the following excellent ticket in the field : Prothonotary, It. A. Mc- Donald; District Attorney ; J. R. Don ehoo; Commissioner, Capt. Harvey Wishart; Auditor, Geoge Mc Govern ; Coroner, Enoch Hast. The following named persons were appointed confer ees: —Senatorial, G. W. Barton, Dr. 11. S. Wishart and Abner Hess. Rep resentative, James Wishart, W. P. Gordon and Nathan Barrett. All with out instuctions. SOMERSET COUNTY.— The Democra cy of Somerset couuty have made the following nominations: Senator, Hi ram Pindlay; Assembly, Samuel Walker; Prothonotary, George A. Thompson; Register and Recorder, Cyrus J. Pike; Treasurer, Frederick Younkin; Sheriff, John B, Richard son ; Commissioner, Alex, Hoffman , Poor Director, Daniel P. Walker • Aud itor, Levi Lichtliter. This is an excel lent ticket and the people of that coun ty would do themselves a lasting cred it to elect these men instead of the very indifferent ticket nominated by the radicals. LIST OK JURORS.—The following Jurors have been drawn to serve at an Adjourned Court, commencing on Monday, July 19,1869. Abraham Rice John J. "We are greatly in need of money just now in order to meet our paper bills and other liabilities, aud as there are thousands of dollars duo the office from subscribers, we would kind ly, but earnestly, ask all who are in ar rears to remit immediately, if possible, a part at least of their indebtedness." "Soy not unto Iky neighbor, '(Jo and come a gtin, and to-morrow I wilt give thee i' when thou hart it by thee.'" How MUCH OWEST TIIOU?—The date opposite the name on the paper Is Die time to which the subscriber has paid ; and means that the subscription year expired with that date (whatever the date may be), and as our terms are (wo dollars a year in advance, or with in six months, and two dollars and fifty cents if not paid within six months, each one can thus easily determine the present condition of his account with this office. How much owest thou ?" •' Woe unto him that uteth hit neighbor'* ser vice without wage*, and giveth him not for hit wool." asrtifor'ti 33rTrJovSj, BEDFORD SPRlNGS.—Visitors to the Springs are already coming in. We understand that enough rooms have been engaged to make this an unusual ly brisk season. If the weather is fa vorable, a great influx of pleasure and health seeking people may be expect ed by the middle of July. The Arandale House is doing a brisk business in the way of visitors, and we learn that the proprietors expect to fill the house to its utmost capacity. Cramer's Cottages have more than double the number they had last y ear > this time of the season, and they wiil be filled early. Mrs. Tate's boarding house contains a number of strangers, and as the place is pleasantly located on Julianna Street, we have no doubt it will be profitably patronized. Of Cheuoweth's we have not heard, but that elegant place will no doubt have its usual number of visitors. A number of our citizens have gone to considerable expense to accomodate the traveling public, and we hope that they will receive the patronage they deserve. IT has always been a difficulty a mong citizens in insuring their lives, that the Companies in which they in sure are limited iu responsibility to the laws of a single State. This has rather prevented the spread of Life Insur ance, so that it is not as general iu this country as it is perhaps in Germany and England. Several of our most dis tinguished citizens, headed by MR. JAY COOKE, of Philadelphia, have removed this difficulty by chartering a compa ny under a law of Congress which gives it equal power in every State and governs it by unity of action. This is the National Life Insurance Company of the United States of America. The advertisement is printed in another column. Its cash capital is one mil lion dollars. It insures lives upon ev ery plan known to other Companies, and in addition to that, it issues# poli cy which at the end of ten years will pay to the holder an annuity during his life and the full value af.er death. The common instincts of prudence, the desire of every man to know that those whom he leaves behind may be kept from want, the shrinking from impov erty we all have, the constant, anxious wish in the mind of every man that his children shall not suffer or be com pelled to beg for bread, should lead him to take advantage of the scheme here offered, and to cover his life with a policy of insurance. For the expen diture of four ceuts a day, ho can be assured a thousand dollars when he dies - and on any sutn he may choose to take at the same rate. It is well to put money into a savings bank. It is perhaps better to put it into a safe and well managed business. But banks are robbed, and business may fail, and evil days may come to the most thrif ty and far-seeing. A good Insurance Company is beyond any of these dan gers ; and the duty of prudence—a du ty so strong that to neglect it is almost a crime—should compel every man who values his own comfort and the happiness of those around him to take the advantage of a scheme like that offered by Mr. Jay Cooke and his friends. If the ladies but knew what thous ands of them are constantly relating to us, we candidly believe one half of the weakness, prostration and distress ex perienced by them would vanish.— James Marsh, Esq., 159 West 14th St., N. Y., says, "he has three children, the first two are weak and puny, his wife having been unable to nurse or attend them, but she has taken Plantation Bit ters for the last two years, and has a child now eighteen months old which she has nursed and reared herself, and both are hearty, saucy and well. The article is invaluable to mothers," Ac. Such evidence might be continued for a volume. The best evidence is to try them. They speak for themselves.— Persons of sedentary habits troubled with weakness, lassitude, palpitation of the heart, iaek of appetite, distress after eating, torpid liver, constipation, diabetes, Ac., will find speedy relief through these Bitters. MAGNOLIA WATER.—Superior to the best imported German Cologne, and sold at half the price. The Great Backeye Machine again victorious. At a contest at Hummels town, Dauphin eo., on the loth day of June, 1869, a premium was awarded the Buckeye machine No. 2, over Dodge's Ohio, the Excelsior, the Val ley Chief, the World, the Mount Joy and the Russell machines. The clover and timothy were very heavy and bad ly lodged, and the ground stony. Af ter a thorough searching test, to which all the machines were subjected, the committee unanimously awarded the premium to the Buckeye No. 2., over all the aboye named machines. Jacob Fackler, I). Around Slave and the wild regions of the north, the Indians know their uses aud have an abiding faith in them. They say: ".iyer—great medicine—cure sjck man," and his re medies, for the diseases from whlph they suffer, will often bring forth their stock of skins even quicker than wam pum, rum, or tobacco. In Rhode Island a white man can not vote unless he is the owner of one hundred and thirty-four dollars' worth of real estate; yet, at the next session of the Legislature, the Radicals will adopt the fifteenth constitutional amendment, by which all the worth less negroes in the State can deposite their votes in the ballot box. In the estimation of the Rhode Island Radi cals, a white man must own a house and lot in order to be equal in value and importance to a negro, who is "simple beauty unadorned." Every thing for the negro, nothing for the white man, is the motto of the Radical party. In Washington men are beaten and shot, and cut and hacked, in order to put the Capital of the nation under negro domination, and the same spirit is manifested in all parts of the country. The question is no longer, shall the negro be equal with the white man? lie claims superiority, and the Radi cals admit the claim. — Philadelphia Age. Their own interests are at stake in this matter. Everybody has suffered so much from the accursed CREDIT SYSTEM, if system it can be called, that I intend to offer to every body a panacea lor the evil in the future. # On and after the first day of June, 1869, I will sell goods EXCLUSIVELY FOR CASH OR PRO DUCE. No doubt some customers may be lost to me, but I flatter myself that it will be only those from whom I cannot collect present accounts. All goods will be sold at about one-half the profit now paid by cousumers. The people often oomplain of Bedford prices being higher than else where, and it is doubtless true, to some extent, for the reason that good customers have had to pay for others' goods with an additional profit on their own. Let an intelligent community sustain me in this enterprise and they WILL SAVE FROM lEN TO FIFTEEN PER CENT. ON EVERYTHING THEY CONSUME, may 14m3 H. F. IB VINE.
