OniTUARY.— The announcement of
the death of Dr. William 11. Watson,
causes deep sorrow throughout the
community, in which Ins life was pass
ed. in near and distant States it will
hring sadness to many, who appreciat
ed his skill and urbanity, during his
long professional ministration at the
Bedford Springs.
Upon the death of his father, Doctor
Watson, at an early age, succeeded to
the duties of a large and laborious
practice, which he pursued assiduously
and successfully—and there, in the
legends of innumerable households,
must the record of the unpretending
deeds of the Physician's life be found.
Kind and urbane in social intercourse,
as a Physician he was eminently so;
and in the sick-room his tenderness
and sympathy won at once the confi
dence and affection of the patient and
his friends, in a profession whose
members are proverbially jealous of
each other, he succeeded, better than
most men in preserving the amenities,
and avoiding the asperities that often
occur in contiguous practice.
Into the sacred precincts of Home it
is not for us to intrude—farther than
to know that the kindly and genial
qualities that characterize his outer
intercourse, shone with brighter lustre
in the famliy circle, where lie was
loving and beloved.
But, after a life well-spent, and leav
ing no enmity in the breast of any
living, the urbane gentleman, the kind
Father, the good Physician rests from
his labours, but still lives in the mem
ories of those who remain to tread the
same inevitable path C'.
FALL OF THE CEILING OF A
CHURCH.— On Saturday last, the ceil
ing of the Stone Church (Lutheran) in
Bedford tp., fell to the floor, carrying
with it joists, girders and a large quan
tity of bricks from a chimney. Luck
ily there was no one in the building at
the time. On Thursday previous the
people of the neighborhood had gather
ed in the Church, and on Sunday, when
the Sabbath School was about to con
vene, it was discovered that the floor
was covered with rubbish and many
of the pews broken to pieces.
