THE "Act to provide for the collec
tion of.State, County, Poor and Military
taxes" is befoTe us. It lias passed both
branches of the Legislature and will
undoubtedly become a law by the sig
nature of the (iovernor. It changes en
tirely the manner of collecting theabove
taxes; making it the duty of the coun
ty Treasurer instead of township col
lectors as heretofore. A copy of the
law will appear in the columns of this
paper next week.
IN publishing the li-t of borough
and township officers we no doubt
made mistakes, owing to the manner
in which some of the election returns
were made out. In Schellsburg Bor.,
J. Espy Snively was elected Town
Clerk, instead of his opponent whose
name we published. We do not de
sire to take a feather frnn the plume
of the gallant Democracy of Schells
burg, and therefore make this correc
tion.

A BILL has been introduced at Wash
ington for abolishing all nickel and sil
ver coins below and including the de
nomination of five, three and one cent
coins, to be made of nickel, and of re
gularly increasing the size, the one
cent being about a third in less diameter
than the present; the head of Liberty
on the obverse, and numerals to he
I, 111, and V, on the reverse of these
cons; the numerals to be raised suffi
ciently to render the coins plainly dis
tinct by touch, from gold and silver
coins. It also proposes to abolish all
ten cent notes,and lesser denominations
for the future, hut not to allow coin
age of ten cent pieces in anything but
silver.
A NEW EXPRESS COMPANY.—A bill
has passed the Senate of this State
chartering a company to be called the
Pennsylvania Ex press Company. The
corporators are Geo. K. Anderson, of
Venango county, J. I>. Cameron, of
Harrisburg, Chas. Miller and J. Per
ry, of Philadelphia, and M. S.Quay, of
Blair. Railroad, canal and insurance
privileges are given to this new com
pany, and it will no doubt be a formid
able rival of Adams Express. If
through its agency express charges
are reduced the people will be benefit
ted to that extent.
JJEMOREST'S PARLOK MAGAZINE. —
This excellent Magazine is constantly
growing in popularity, and the secret
of its success is the conscientiousness
with which it is conducted. It gives
all, and more than all, that it promises.
It strives to meet the wants of Ameri
can women, and tells them what they
want to know. It is not frivolous; its
teachings are high, pure, and sound,
characterized by good taste ana com
mon-sense. Its departments of music,
needlework, braiding, patterns, etc.,
are either one worth the price of sub
scription, which is only $3.00 per year,
with a handsome and valuable prem
ium. Office, 473 Broadway N. V.
No loss can be more fatal to beauty,
especially in the female sex, than the
loss of the hair; glossy, luxuriant hair
is one of the most powerful of all per
sonal charms. When baldness or even
a deficiency of hair exists, we naturally
look for a dry and wrinkled -'kin, tt la
ded complexion; when not actually)
seen, we see them in imagination.
Why, then, not cultivate your hair*'

Petroleum V. Nasby relates that
"Barrett's Vegetable II ir Resorative" ;

To DELINQUENTS. —The publisher of
the Delaware Express has recently re
covered at law thirteen years' subscrip
tion and costs from a delinquent sub
scriber who meanly pleaded the stat- '
uteof limitations, which he claimed
barred the account for all exceeding six
years. The Judge held that it was a con

NOTICETO DELINQUENTS. —We have
placed our hooks ami accounts in the
hands of John P. Reed, Esq., of tlisi
place, for collection. All. accounts for
subscription for the year ending Au

cluded in the bills which Mr. Reed i.*
authorized to collect. We have been
compelled to resort to this course in or
der to obtain a settlement of our ac
counts. We have too much .to do to
attend to making out bills, and we
are tired of dunning. M tiey we must
hare, as we have many debts to pay,
and we desire toact honestly with our
creditors. Therefore, we ask all to
pay Mr. Reed, who can, and those who
cannot, we ask to call and settle. If
there is any tiling in their accounts
which they consider themselves ag
grieved, let them call on us, and we
will make all right that is not right.
Friends, let us have the old scores wip
