RAILROAD .MEETING.—In pursuance of a call published in the GAZETTE and Inquirer of last week, the people . of Bedford county assembled in Mass Meeting in the Court House, on Mon day afternoon, the 2nd inst. On motion of J. It. Durborrow, the meeting was organized by placing the Hon. Alexander King, President Judge of the Kith Judicial District, in the chair and the appointment of lion. George W. Gump, Hon. Win. E. Eic holtz, Hon Job Mann and John Mow er, Esq., as Vice Presidents, and John Lutz and John P. Iteed, Esqs., Secre taries. The following gentlemen were tip pointed a Committee on resolutions: Win. M. Hali, J. W. Lingen felter and G. 11. Spang, Esqs. The chairman of the above committee read the follow ing resolutions: 1. The people of Bedford County, in mass meeting assembled, hereby ex press their gratification at the decis ion of the Supreme Court of Pennsyl vania, pronouncing the Act of Aseui bly repealing the charter of the Pitts burgniid Connellsville Railroad uncon stitutional and void, and iiail with joy the prospect of the completion, at an early day, of a Grand Through Rail road from Pittsburg to Baltimore, wuicli will pass within twenty miles of Bedford, and open up to commerce, mining and manufactures, the .south western portion of our county. 2. Thai whilst we regret the fact that the Southern Pennsylvania R til road seems to have been a mere occupation of toe ground, with a show of engineer ing and with no apparent intention of making a road, yet we do not agree with the views of John Edgar Thomp son, President of Peima. Central Rail road, lately expressed in his report to the stockholders, that it is not practi cable to make any great through rail road traversing Southern Pennsylva nia, and we hope that Philadelphia enterprise and capital will ultimately build an independent Southern Penn sylvania through railroad.' That B dford being thirty-nine aides nearer, via. Wills Creek to Bal timore than via. Huntingdon to Plisla delphiu, and sixty miles nearer, via. same route, to Pittsburg than via. Huntingdon, our natural.railroad con nection, as I) tween these routes, is v\ i h tiieCi nneiisville road at Bridge p n't, ait • w • urge upon our citizens to le prepared to aid such an enterprise with their go i I win and money. 4. 'That the line from Bedford to Wills Creek being nearly straight, of easy grades, with no deep cuts orex pen sive oridges, the ro.nl can he made at such small expense as to be within the reach of accomplishment, by a united effort, as soon as the Connellsville road is put under contract. 5. Tuat the Chair appoin a commit tee of ten citizens to piN-cure the pas sage of an act of assembly chartering the Bedford and Bridgeport Railroad Company, and to take such steps as may lie deemed wise, to inform the public of the advantages of this rail road connection, nod to place the pro ject in course of accomplish meat. (i. That weapprove the course of our members, J. T. Richards and John Weller, in favoring a fair Free Railroad Law, and that we endorse the House Bill as such, and request our Senator, I lon. Alex. Stutzuiau, to vote for said House Bill. Pending the resolutions, speeches were made by Win. .M. Hall, Esq., Win M. Hartley, Esq., and Hon. Judge King. The resolutions were unani mously adopted. iSubsequently Mr. Hartley offered several resolutions pertaining to the Southern Pennsylvania and Connells ville railroad which after some discus sion were withdrawn. The chair appointed tlie following Committee in accordance with the a bove resolution : Win. M. Hall, Win. : art ley, J. R. Durborrow, S. L. Rus sell, G. 11. Spang, J. W. Diekerson, J. W. Lingetifelter, Job Mann, John Al sip, John Cessna. On motion a Committee of three were appointed to visit Harrisburg and urge the passage of the House Free Rail road bill, consisting of Hon. John Cess na, B. F. M 'yers and D. W. Waslia liaugh, Esqs. On motion adjourned. ALEXANDER KING, Pres't. JOHN Lurz, I secretaries JOHN P. REED, FORTUNES.
