A very large and enthusiastic meet
ing of the Democrats and Conservatives
of Napier township was held at the
Point School House, near Pearson Stu
debuker's, on Saturday evening last.

The meeting was addressed by J.G.
Fisher and B. F. Aleyers. The great
est enthusiasm prevailed, old Napier
is wide awake and will exceed herself
in the majority she will give this fall
lor the Democratic Union ticket. The
Democrats of Napier township are a
noble band and never surrender.
A grand rally of the Democrats of the
upper end of Cumberland Valley was
held at Tea berry school house, on Fri
day e,veiling last. (The list of officers
of this meeting has not been handed
us.j Speeches were made by J. L. Lew
is and J. W. Dickerson, Esqs. Air.
Lewis made a most eloquent appeal to
the audience to vote down Radical Di—
unionism which was well received.
Air. Lewis was in the service during
the greater part of the war and was a
prisoner at the battle of Gettysburg.

voted the one ticket at one poll for over
sixty years, was called to the chair, as
sisted by David Rowland and David
llowsare as Vice Presidents, and Ad
am Fetter, Edw. Northcraft and Jacob
Keefer as Secretari<*s. When feelings
of patriotism bring the Alills, tin- Fet

ly all of whom are bordering four-score
years, to a night meeting, it is not hard
to guess results. The meeting wa-ad

We are glad to he able to announce to
our readers, that a Classical School, for
young ladies and gentlemen, is to lie
revived in Bedford,similar to thai kept

States, between the age of twenty-one and twen

itants. furnished by the Commissioners, unless :
First, he produce a receipt of payment, within
two years ofS'alo or County tax assessed agreea
bly to the Constitution, and give satisfactory evi
dence on his own oath or affirmation of another
that helms paid such a tax. or in failure to pro
duce a receipt shad make oath to tliu payment
thereof: or second, if ho claim a righl to vote by
being an elector between the age of twenty-one
and t .venty-t wo years shall depose onoathorai
firmaiion. that he has resided in the State at least
one year before his application, and make such
proof of residence iu the district as is required by
this act. and that ho does verily believe from the
account given bim that lie is of the ngeaforesaid,
and gives such other evidence as is required by
this act. whereupon the name of the person so ad
mitted to vote shall be inserted in the alphaocti
ical !i thy the Inspector. and a note made epi "-
site thereto by writing tlio word "tax." if he shall
be admitted to vote by reason ot bavii g paid tax.
and the word ••ago" if he shall be admitted to vote
by reason of age, and in cither case the reason ol
such a vote shall be jailed out to the clerks, who
shall make n like note in the list of voters kept by
them.
'•ln all cases where the name of the person
claiming to vote is uot found on trie ii<t furnished
hy the Commissioners, or his right to veto wheth
er found thereon or not, is objected to by any
qualified citizen, it shall be the duty of the In
spectors to examine such person on oath us to his
qualifications, and if he claims to have resided
within the State for one year or more his oath
shall he sufficient proof thereof, hut heshall make
proof bv at least one competent witness, who shall
be a qualified elector, that he ha" resided within
the district for more than ten days immediately
preceding said election and shall also swear that
his bona lido residence, in pursuance of his lawful
calling is within the district, and that he did not
remove within the district for the purpose of vo
ting.
• Every person qualified as aforesaid, and who
shall make due proof if required, of his residence
and payment of taxes aforesaid, shall be admitted
