PROSECUTED.— The election hoard of
Londonderry township, has hoen pros
eeuted for rejecting the votes of citizens
of that township, who were alleged to
be "desertor-." The question in
volveil in this prosecution, will, iloubt
le-s U* decided by the ,Supreme Court,
in the course of a few months. Several
parties in Franklin county have brought
suits for election boards
of that county, for refusing to receive
their votes on the ground that they were
reported a> ''deserters."
KILLED ix S. CAROLINA.— We are
sorry to hear of the death of 11. X. La
ker, formerly of ibis place, but lately
a mail contractor in S. Carolina. .Mr.
Baker was riding upon hi- mail coach,
when a highwayman sprang out upon
the road and after demanding the mon
ey of the passengers, (which was refus
ed tired upon the coach, killing one or
two of its inmates, and wounding Mr.
Baker who died in a few (lays of his inju
ry. Mr. Baker was an officer of volun
teers in the late war and as such bore an
excellent character.
