Induced by tne extrusive sale and universal pop

table, hosts of ignorant Quacks and unscrupulous
adventurers, have opened upon suffering humanity
the flood gates of Nostrums in tbe shape of poor
whiskey, vilely compounded with injurious drugs,

Beware of the innumerable array of Alcoholic
preparations in plethoric bottles.and big bellied kege
under the modest appellation of Bittert) which, in
stead of curing, only aggravate disease, and leave
the disappointed sufferer in despair.
HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS,

the test of fifteen years trial by the American pub

any similar preparation.

Although not disposed to f, vnr or recommend Pat
ent medicines ir, general, thiong.i distrust of their
ingiedients and effects, I yet know of no sufficient
reason why a man may not testify to the benefit ha
believes himself to have received from any simple
preparation, in the hope that ha may thus contrib
ute to the benefit of others.
I do this the more readily in regard to Hoofland's
German letters, prep.ii d by Dr. (1. M. Jackson, of
this city, because I wus prejudiced against them for
tmany years, under the impression that they were
cueietiy an alcoholic mixtu- . 1 am indebted to my
friend Robert Shoemaker, Esq., lor the removal of
this prejudice by proper tests, and for encourage
ment to try them, when suffering from great and
long continued debility, i'iie use of three bottles
of these Bitters, at the beginning of the present
yeai, was followed by evident relief and restoration
to a degree of bodily and mental vigor which 1 bad
not felt lor six mouths before, and bad almost de
spaired of regaining. I therefore tbankGod and my
friend far directing me to the use of them.

DR. JACKS, N—JFAR SIR : —1 have been frequently
requested to connect my name with commendations
of different kinds of medicines, but regard,ng tha
practice as out of my appropriate sphere, 1 have in
all cases declined ; bu' with a cleai proof ill various
instances, mid particularly in my own family, of tho
trel'ulness of Dr. Hootiand's German Bit'ers, 1 de
part for once from my Usual course, to express my
full conviction that, lor general debility of the sys
tem, and especially for Liver Complaint, it is a safe
and valuable prepaiation. In some cases it inay fail,
but usually I doubt not it will be very beneficial to
those who suffer from the above causes.
Yours, very respectfully,
J. H. KENNARD.
