SHANK— ELDER.— On the 80th ult., by
the Rev, H. Ilcckerman, Mr Hiram Shank to
Mis* Mary E Elder, both of Harrison town
ship.
HORN—COOK.—In Allegany county, Md.,
on the6th of April, 18G3, by the Rev. Wm. A.
McKee., Mr. A. M. Horn, of St.Clair tp., Hed
for doounty, to Miss Catharine Cook, ofjthe for
mer place.
-DIED—
ADAMS. —On Sabbath, the 26th ult., Mr.
Elijah Adams, in tho 88th year of hi 3 age.
The deceased was born in the vicinity of this
place. Of his early history the writer knows
but little. He did not Become religious until
late in life. For several-years previous to his
death he suffered much from disease. He often
expressed a desire to go to a "better country."
During his last Sickness, which was protracted,
be seemed to grow rapidly in knowledge and in
grace. We trust entered into rest. "The
days of out- years are threescore years and ten ;
and if bv reason of strength they be foursjpre
years, yet is their strength, labor and sorrow :
for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."
ZIMMERS. —On tho 26th of April, Mr.
Anthony Zimmers, Aged 62 years, 11 months
and 1 day.
The deceased was a member of the Lutheran
church, and was connected with the Denning's
creek Congregation, Bedford Tp. In his death
the community has lost a good and useful citi
aou, but especially hi the church will his loss
be felt. He was one of tho pillars of the con
gregration ; always ready to do liis part for the
good of Zion. His place in the public sanctu
ary and in the social prayer meeting was very
seldom vacant. Ho was liberal in supporting
the gospel at home and freely contributed for
sending it abroad. He sincerely loved the
church and could say of himself.
"I love thy Zion, Lord!
The bousu of thine abode;
The church our blessed Redeemer saved,
By thine own precious blood."
His sickness, which was very painful, he bore
with much resignation. Ho \vas|conßcious that
his life was drawing to a close, but he had no
tears of death, for ho felt assured that if the
earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved,
wc hove a building of God, a bouse not made
with hands, eternal in tho heavens."
