THE HOME JOURNAL FOR 1863 We have much pleasure in informing the public that one of our contributor lor the coming year, will he bur old Iriend and colleague THEODORE S. PAY. We von'ess to uncommon pride and pleasure in this vcnewul of intercouise with the friend and in tima'e of other days, and we look to be felici tated for it, by the established readers who consti tute the family of the HOME JOITRNAI.. We have in preparation, also, for the coming year, several VERY THRILLING STORIES Some of the ablest of living pens are engaged for us in translating from the French and German ■and our own original narrative writers aie among the first. We are foitunate, also, I n travellers gone abroad who are literary contributor*, and we anticipate for our reaiieis a most agreeable surprise in the quality of these Sketches of Travels and Adventures. But the future of our journal, which we have rot yet mentioned, is perhaps the most recherche of all its prominence as 'THE EXPONENT OF REFINED 80CTE W. Our correspondence with the leaders of fashion, in New York and the other capitals, is especially valuable in this lespect, keeping us unmistakably I informed of the changes and progress ol what is i commonly undersiood by the "gay world. As Vre have taken some pains to arrange the resources for this new feature, we speak confidently of its promise of entertainment to our large circle of rend ers. In this department, foreign journals are end lesslv inventive ; and, with our industrious ran sacking of these, we are sure to select, for the pe culiar taste to which we minister, a most relishing banquet. TherEfiitorN will give the Journal their constant attention, as before. Of the goings on, in the evenlful scenes and places of the country, Mr. Willis's pen will give photographsas usual. General Morris's Songs and Sketches wtfl be embroidered on the thread of the passing moment, at they have always been. Some of the beat intellects of the land are enlisted for us, also, and we think we may promise to hold our place as the journal which best enables THE VAXIET.TO keep convera ant with the world. Th puHiisher Lady's Rook, Thank ful to that public which has enabled nim to pub lish a magazine for the last thirty-threr years ol larger circulation than any ia America, has made an arrangement with the most popular authors in this country—MAßl ON HA BLAND, Authoress of "Alone," "Hidden Path," "Moss Side," "Ne mesis," and "Miriam," who will furnish a story for every Number of the Lady's Book for 1863. This alone will place the Lady's Book ia a literary point l *r view far ahead of any other magazine. Marion Harland writes for no other publication. Our other favorite writers will all continue to furnish articles throughout the year. The heft Lady's Magazine in the World, and the .theapest, The literature is of that ltind that can be read ••aloud in the family circle, and the c'ergv in im mense numbers are subscribers for the Book. The music is all original, and would cost 2.1 c ts. (the pree of the Book) in the music stores; but most of it is copyrighted, and cannot be obtained except in Oodey. Our Steel Engravings—All efforts to rival us in this have ceased, and we now stand alone in this department, giving, as we do, many more and infinitely better engravings than are published in anv other work. Godey's immense double sheet fashion plate's containing from Sve to sevpn full length Colored Fashions on each plate. Oth°r magazines give only two. Par ahead of any fashions in Europe or America. Godey's is the only work in the world that gives these immense plates, and they are such as to have excited the wonder of publish ers and the public. The publication of the ■ plates cost 10,000 MORE than Fashion-plates of the old style, and nothing but our wonderfully large circulation enables us to give them.—Other magazines cannot rfiord it. We never spare ' when the public can be benefitted. These fashions may be relied on. Dresses may be made after them, and the wearer will not sub ject hersplf to ridicule, a9 would be the case if she visited the large cities dressed after the style of the plates given in some of our 60-called fashion magazines. Our wood engravings, of \shich sve give twice or three times as many as eny other magazine, are often mistaken for steel. They are so far superi or to and others. Imitations — beware of them. Remember that the Lady's Book is the original publicationand the eheapest. If you take Godey, you want no other magazine. F.verything that is useful or ornamental in a bouse can be found in Godey. Dratnng Lossnns— no other magazine gives them and we have given enough to filt several targe vol umes. Our Receipts —are such as can be found nowhere else. Cooaing in all its variety—Confectionery the Nursery—the Toilet—the Laundry—the kitch en. Receipts upon all subjects are to be found in the pages of the Lady's Book. We originally started this department, anal have peculiar facilties for making it most perfect. This department ulone is worth the price of the Book.
