*"CULATOR—
. Rook o! Plain Rules and Calculations for Business
Operation, By Martin M. Robrer, Practical

tion, Published by J. B. Lippincott
& Philadelphia.
This work contaiiw 1104 pages, and upwards oi
500 Rules and Examples, entirely and thoroughly
practical, such as arise every day in the common
aursuits of Business. It has already passed through
p number of Editions in rapid succession, an. is
tronounced by alt classes of business men to be
lhe handiest book of reterence, pertaining to calcu
pations, that has ever been published.
Eveiy example in the book i? woiked out in full
an.l tated in a plain manner, so that when a par
allel case arises, those referring to the work will
find no difficulty in readily solving it ; in a word,
the general arrangement of the Calculator is so
simple, that ar.y one who knows how to add, sub
stract, multiply, or divide, can easily solve any or.
dinary example that arises in business, or arr.ve at
the result of any estimate required.
The chief aim of the author has been to eschew
theory and philosophy in figures, aiming only at
facts and si mplicity, believing that business men
care little about spending time in discussing the
philosophy of rules or the science of figures, deem
ing it sufficient lor their purpose to be able at a
moment, by reference, to arrive at the true result
The calculator differs in this respect from all A
ritbmetics of the day, and kindred works—it is a
key to practical business calculations—it is, in the
hands of the business man, what the key to matb
emrtical works is in the hands of the teacher in the
sciiool-room—it facilitates time and insures cor
rectness.
