Bedford, Jan. 21, IS.">9* Scrofula, or King's Evil, is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated, wea it, and poor, Being in the cireulm n, the whole body, and may burst out in uiseasc :i any part of it." No or an is free from its aiuu-ks nor is there one which it may : ck y. Iho scrofu lous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, disordered or uu! althy ft.. 1, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the tkprc -ir.g vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. What ever be its origin," it is hereditary in the constitu tion, descending " frcm parents to children unto the tliird and fourth generation;" indeed, it seems to be the rod of llim who says, '• I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their children." Its effects commence by deposition from the blornl of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is tel.: ed tuber cles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the suih.ee, eruptions or sores. This find corruption, winch genders in the blood, depresses the c-ru rgi< s of life, so that scrofulous constitutions not only suffer from scrofulous complaints, but they have far 1. ss power to withstand the attacks of ether diseases; con sequently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, arc still ren dered fatal by this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which decimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous.e< ..lamina tion ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of ail the organs, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous; their persons are invatl.d by this lurking infection, and their health is undermined by it. To cleanse it from the system we mutt renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and invigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we eupply in _W. AYER'S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where pre vailing and fatal malady. It is combined from the most active remedials that have been discovert <1 f>r the expurgation of this foul disorder from the bl- d, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences. Hence it should be employed for the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other affections which arise from it, such as EKVI-TIVB and SKIN DISEASES, ST. ANTHONY'S FIRE, Rose, or ERYSIPELAS, PIHTLES, PUSTULES, BLOTCHES, PLAINS and BOILS, TUMORS, TETTER and HALT RHEUM, SCALP HEAD, RINGWORM, RHEUMATISM, SYPHILITIC and MERCURIAL DISEASES, DROPSY, DYSPEPSIA, DEHILITY, and, indeed, ALL COMPLAINTS ARISING FROM VITIATED OK IMPURE BLOOD. The popular belief in " impurity of the blood" i- funded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the bit . J. The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossible in con taminated constitutions. v v -1 Ayer's Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC. arc so composed that disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or evade them. Their pen etrating properties search, and cleanse, and invigorate every portion of the human organism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these properties, the i:.valid who is bowed down with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting. Not only do they cure "the cverv-day complaints of every body, but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The agent below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac, containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the follow ing complaints: Costirentss, Henrtbvrn, 11 cliche, arising from disordered stomach, Sou a, h'digest ion, Pain ai and Morbid Inaction of the Hunt Is, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, Jaundice, and other kindred com plaints, arising from a low state of the body or obstruc tion of its functions. Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, FOR THE RAPID CURE OF Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consumption, and for the relief of Consumptive Patients in ad vanced stages of the disease. So wide is the field of its usefulness and so numerous are the cases of it* cures, that .'most every •. tin of country abounds in per. ins publicly known, who have been restored from alarming and even d<~ ■ • : itr dis eases of die lungs by its use. When onci tried, its superiority over every other medicine of in. kind 5< no apparent to escape observation, and where it. virtues arc known, the public no longer hesitate v.! it antidote to employ for the distressing and dang rous j.:f. ti ;.s of the pulmonary organ that are incident to i r climate. While many inferior remedies thru-t epos the community have failed and been dri. ink i, this 1 s gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the afflicted they can never forget, and produced cures too numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten. Feb 18, 'SO. Nycum's Improved CAST-IRON CARRIAGE HUB. TH3'f undersigned believes that he has invented a cast iron carriage hub which far excels all oth ers now in use, for strength, neatness and durability, and that it only needs to be examined, and its mer its tested; to secure its universal approval and a doption. Indeed it is 110 longer an experiment, it having been effectually tried by the best judges in our country, and pronounced one oi' the Great eat Improvements of the Age ! Several vehicles have been in use over two years with the Improved llub attached, and the wheels are still as perfect as when they left the shop, the unavoidable wear excepted. This is the only Cast Iron Hub ever invented sui table for light wheels. This imprevement is cf such a nature that one or more spokes may betaken out changed or replaced without disturbing the other portion of the wheel. Where a wood hub is used, if a spoke happens to be come, broken, it is necessary to cut the tire and se parate the felloes, to get at the damaged part. The wheel must be then recomposed, the tire rewelded and reset. All this involves a considerable expense and loss of time. In the present Improvement the inner ends of tiie spokes are secured in an Iron Hub, which consists mainly of two shells fastened together with screws. By simply unscrewing the nuts and taking off the back shell, any one of the spokes may be removed or changed, and the hub again put together, leaving the wheel as solid and firm as ever, all UTTHLY THE SPLICE OF A FEW ML\ UTES. This mejhod of constructing Iron Hub Wheels gives them unusual strength, LIGHTNESS AND NEATNESS besides obviating several other objections that have heretofore attended their use. The cost of manu facture is also greatly reduced. The subscriber Agent for Bedford County, will dispose of Township and shop rights on teasonable terms. WILLIAM O'NEAL. Agent. Feb 25, !85y.
