Ml-sclk vs. Keasow. The evening of the
election was tlio time of un animated scene on
the square. Two parties not satisfied with
lawful provisions as to who should voto and
who should not, concluded to decide it by a
passage at arms. Tho "mill" resulted in a
couple of bloody faces and bruised "sconces"
without cither party becoming convinced of
the other's argument. One actually was fast
limny hi ability to "see it" in any liijht when the
valiant exertions of disinterested (?) partlesl
prevented such a crisis. Ihe crowd naturally
took sides and som: seemed anxious to renew
the battle by kicking up a general muss. Sev
eral loud-mouthed ruffians, who have attained
a notoriety for booting drunkon men and In
sulting old men, were especially active in do
ing the winil-work. Th wiser counsels of
right-minded men prevailed, however, and
the thing was quieted down. We understood
that our olticers. acted resolutely and would

Wt see by our exchanges that Commemor
ation Day was universally observed through
out the country. City and hamlet vied with
e ich other in this beautiful and fitting tribute
to our Nation's protectors who aro
"Sleeping to waken in this weary world no
more,
Sleeping for their true loved country, sleeping
for the fli'g llicy bore."
The ceremonies were everwhere highly in
teresting and largely attended, showing ho
deeply in the hearts of tlia people lies love
of our country and its ting, and pride in
her gallant defenders. Lang may the day be
celebrated.
"Look on this picture, and then on that."
Here you behold the infirm step.
The pallid cheek, wasting form.
Vntusted food, and a social atmosphere
Poisoned with the tales of aches, pains,
Sleepless nights and mental despondency.
There laughing health, sparkling eyes,
Elastic steps, craving appetite, forgotten cares
Genial thought and ambitious resolves,
Show the contrast and mark the picture.
