Starvation, it appears, is nnt con
fined to the South. From Sweden we
have heart-veticlerinjr accounts of the
sufferings of the people of that country
while one of the. most prominent and
cautious oi the London Journals states
that there arc tens of thousands of
men and women staving in East
London and in Liverpool nnd Corn
wall. IIuxxicutt created quite an excite
ment in tho Richmond Convention
Thursday hy calling Henry A. Wise
and R. M. T Hunter traitors. Mr.
Hunter, n relative of tho latter, culled
Hunnicutt nliar,and a Mr.Leggett en
dorsed Hunter. After considerable
confusion, during which pistols were
shown, the whole subject was referred
to a committee. Much feeling exists.
It is stilted that only ten miles of
track remain to bo laid when the Pa
cific Railroad willbe at the highest point
of tho Rocky mountains tho road has
to cross. It is an instructive fact that
winter has not impeded the work of
construction which is expected to go on
uninterruptedly. The inference is a
reasonable one that whereconstructions
can be prosecuted tho road can he run,
and that tho snow obstacles of the
mountains arc not as great as have
been represented.
