Tho ponititm qf an editor 'n Vifks-

that ot a Boldicr in active ocrvtcc.
That was then "the code" universally
aeceptttl as the standard. The ,ieks
burn Republican gives an interesting
clironolgieal talde of the casual ities of
the various editors of tho Sentinel, of
that city before the war. It says :
"Dr. I lagan took charge in 1837:
fought a duel with the editor of the
Whig ; particintated in a number of
tree lighte, and was hniillv killed in
1849 in a street fight by V. D. Adams.
His assistant, Isaac Partridge, died
with yellow fever in 1819. Dr. J. S.
Hall, associated with Mr. Partridge,
was a noted duelist, and had a number
of 'all'airs,' in one of which he was
severely wounded. The next uiiliii.'ky
editor was James Ryan, who, in vin
dicating his honor, was killed by R.
E. llamit, of .the Whig. From the
report of tho fight, it would seem that
the Whig man got the best of it. Next
in tho list enmc Walter Kiokey, who
indulged in several street rows, ami
was repeatedly wounded; he killed Dr.
Kacklin, anil was soon alter killed
himself in the Ixmo .Star Slate.
"The next editor was John levins,
who, it seems, declined glory on the
field of honor, tind consequently is not
entitled to a place in the niche of liune,
He indulged, however, in the usual
amount of Soul hern indiscreet abuse,
and atoned lir his folly by serving a
time in prison. Mr Jenkins, bis suc
cessor, in aspiring to immortality, canto
to an untimely end in a street light
with A. ll.t'rabbc; Mr. (.'rahlm was
assassinated in thesamemaniicrin Sou
ora. Mr. F. ( Jones succeeded Jenk
ins, but not finding the editorial chair
an ea.-y one, he did the most sensible
thing nn editor could do, and drowned
his sorrows and body at the same
time in the Father of Waters. Wil
liam tiny, Esq., subsciiicnt!y iwinncd
editorial chame of the Sintiiul, and
soon alter he celebrated the event with
a street light. This exercise was re
peated at intervals until finally he was
assassinated in a si reel row by his book
keeper. The book-keeper died a nat
ural death about two years since."
