Wur Folks IUad Locals An old "local,'
who ought to know all about things pertaining
to this department, says the people read Items
of local Intercjor reasons as opposite a man
and wife. A,- reads about a light because be
was there, and saw it ; B, because he wasn't
there and didn't ; C, because he had heard
bout It ; D, because ho hadn't, while those
who bad a hand in It, want to know bow
much or truth concerning them the editor has
deemed compatible In its utterance with a
continuation of bis own earthly career. The
consciousness, too, that hundreds of others are
imultanaously perusing the tame article, and
that It is therefore subject of common thought
and conversation, doubtless adds to the sect
with which ordinary readert eagerly devour
articles that otherwise would have but dull
. perusal or no perusal at all. .
Disisi.ss Cocrtkst It Is a misfortune that
a great proportion of this world's people Is
made up of unsocial, boorish, ill-mannered
individuals. Of all things conducive to wel
fare and success, courtesy In business wil
rank among the first. It Is not hard to Judgu
from tho tone of a nun's letters his exact
nature and disposition, not leu readily from
those pertaining to business airalrs, than those
of a private caste. Tlio plain, matter-of-fact
man,addressesyouinastraight-fovard,respect
fill, and business like manner. Even if crude
and indicative of an unlettered nature it smacks
of courtesy and you may set him down im
mediately as one whom you can deiend upon.
The knave over does ihe thing, he is prolusa
in "please'' "you will greatly oblige" "yours
most respectfully," etc. lie wilt do In some
instances, but in the majority of cases he tries
to ttick you. The presumptious chap, writes
as if you was his Inferior, generally beginning
with and winding up in cominandatory style.
He is the pest of respectable business society
and usually combines nrrogance witli Igno
rance. Such address editors as if thry were
dogs, without the slightest provocation, with
out the least sense of cxtennnlon. He can't
tell you respectfully that his paper fails to
reach him, that you have erred in making out
liis account, that he wishes his paper discon
tlned, without a display of his rude, uncouth
nature charging you wtth what, In nine
cases out often is hi own carelessness or that
of pist-oftice officials. Seriously we think an
expose as a warning would be beneficial to
those who Indulge in "lording it" over those
so unfortunate as to he connected with
them in business relationship.

Sad Acciiikst. We are informed that a
child of the Widow WhctzeL or Wuctzler,
of Monongahela tp., was killed last week by
tlie falling of a tree. It resulted, as we under
stand it, from a childish freak of the children
in cutting down a small tree for fire wood,
daring the absence of the oldei members of
the family. Raving already lost her husband
in the army, this second bereavement will fall
heacily upon the mother.
HonsB PaowxKD. The Uniontown Stand
ard of last week says John Bnrre, livery keep
er in this place lost a valuable horse at David
son's Ferry on the Monongahela river, on last
Friday. The boat, it seems, was not fasten
ed to tlie shore, and the ferryman being on
the other aide of the river, tlie driver, the
bank being steep, let his horses run oa to the
boat, which shot out from the shore, plung
ing hones, driver and all into the river. The
driver saved himself by jumping into another
boat lying near, and one of the horses saved
himself, drawing both the carriage and the
dead bone attached.
