Lancaster Farming, Saturday, December 27, 2003-811 Snyder County Extension Conducts Annual Banquet FREEBURG (Snyder Co.) - Snyder County 4-H and Penn State Cooperative Extension of Snyder County conducted a com bined annual banquet on Nov. 13 at the Freeburg-Washington Community Center, more than 100 people attended. During the evening guests were treated to vocal perform ances by Laura Connahan, mem ber of the Rawhide Riders 4-H Club, and a presentation by Diet er Krieg, editor of Farmshine ag ricultural newspaper. Current members and retiring members of the boards were rec ognized for their service to the or ganizations. Retiring members from the extension board in cluded Earle Ferry, Morrill (Mac) Curtis, Pat Mitchell, R.T. Pecht, and Keith Roush. The following 4-H foundation members were also honored for their service: Amanda Beachel, Carol Hoff man, Ethel Ann Jones. Achievement Award for his strong support of extension’s “Healthy Schools” program with in the district. This year’s recipient of the Friend of 4-H Award is Jerry Valentine, who has consistently supported the Snyder County 4-H program for many years, pri marily through the Snyder Coun ty Youth Livestock Sale con ducted annually at the Beaver Fair. Each year Jerry purchases livestock project animals from 4-H members at a premium price. Without fail, he donates one of the market hogs he has purchased to be auctioned again, this time with all the proceeds going to the Snyder Countv 4-H program. Jerry’s support has played a vital part in the purchase of many items for the 4-H program. The Snyder County 4-H Founda tion is very pleased to honor Jerry Valentine for his outstand ing support and dedication to the Snyder County 4-H program. 4-H volunteers and leaders were also recognized for their years of service. Volunteers re ceived certificates and/or pins for years of dedication to the pro gram. Christopher Swineford and Carolyn Shirk of Swineford Na tional Bank, and Dawn Marie and Scott West of Big Country Radio presented the Snyder County 4- H Program with a monelarv donation from funds raised during this years Scooper Bowl. The donation will be used to offset the educational materi als fee that each member will be required to pay beginning with the upcoming year. Wayne County Youth Place In National Jersey Contest HONESDALE (Wayne Co.) Theron LaTourette, Honesdale and the Lauretta 4-H Club and Jacob Chyle, Pleasant Mount and the Cold Springs-Rileyville 4-H Club, were recognized recently for having their Jersey cows placed in the “top 10” of the “2002 National Jersey Youth Production Contest!” Theron’s Jersey cow, “CA Theo Linda Licorice,” placed 3rd overall in the first lactation divi sion for cows calving before 30 months of age. The Multiple Component Pricing (MCP) dollar value of his cow’s milk, butterfat, and protein production was over $3,500! Jacob’s Jersey cow, “CA Theo Segin Samantha,” placed 9th overall in the first lactation divi sion for cows calving before 30 months of age. The Multiple Component Pricine (MCP) dollar value of his cow’s milk, butterfat, and protein production was over $3,000! Theron and Jacob traveled to Louisville, Ky., in early November, to receive their awards at the Jersey Junior Banquet, conducted dur ing the All American Jersey Show and Sale.
