Dairy Workshops To Teach Solid Decision Making UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) Every decision made in a business impacts its profit margin in multiple ways. This is particu larly true of dairy farms, where daily decisions can have far-reach ing effects on the farm’s profitabili ty- Dairy Alliance is helping pro ducers learn how to manage a vari ety of risks and improve their fin ancial stability through a new program called Profit Manager, to be conducted at three sites across Pennsylvania during January. “Implementing a systems ap proach to decision-making will en able dairy producers to control risk and reduce the volatility of profit margins,” explained Bradley Hilty, information specialist with Penn State Dairy Alliance. “Participants in the Profit Manager workshops will focus on the interaction of the feeding and milk production sys tems with milk marketing, and leant how management of each can impact the profit margin of their business.” A number of Penn State Cooper ative Extension faculty and staff will instruct the program.
