I respect my teachers and know they have helped me tremendously, but I don’t think that teaching is for me.” Emily has used her English and speech college classes to write and speak about farming. “Education is the key. So many don’t realize where food comes from,” she said of her efforts to communicate modern-day farming. Her college classmates and pro fessors respond favorably to her “farm education” speeches. Laura said that riding on the school bus during high school, she’d often overhear classmates complain about farm odors. To counteract her classmates’ false impression of “dirty old farmers,” Laura, for a class project, took photos of the family’s milking parlor and dairy operation to show how farmers are required to meet regulations and keep clean facilities. The Grove farm is definitely not dirty. The spacious, up-to-date fa cilities are extremely clean and neat. The eight carousel milking parlor is used to milk 160 cows. The barn under construction will be a 186x113-foot freestall barn. Jeff is involved in the Young Farmers of America, Shippensburg Chapter.
