Your reverse painting on glass
is one of the many mass produced
in the late 19th century. It could
sell in a shop for $2OO. The tech
nique of reverse painting dates
back several hundred years. Chi
nese Export examples individual
ly done in the 19th century can
sell for several thousand dollars.
This wall decoration has a spigot
and a hole in the back for using it
for some sort of liquid. It has
“Haeger” on the back of it. What is
it ? Is it of any antique value ? If so,
what is it worth?
B.J
- Summerhill, PA
From your photo you have a
“ lavaho ” made in the early 20th
century by the Haeger pottery C
ompany of Illinois. It usually
contained water and came with a
wash basin, placed underneath it.
These days they are often used to
decorate garden walls or as deco
rator accent. As is it could sell in
a shop for $l5O or more.
This wood-bake stove is in good
condition. What would you think it
is worth ? Who would buy it?
S.B. - Quarryvile, PA
From your photo you have
what was known as a “smooth
lop ” range, made in the 19305. It
was a transition range to help
cooks used to wood/coal stoves.
Yours looks like the early “Magic
Chef ” model, hut you didn’t tell
me the maker's name that is on
the oven door. Since prices vary
widely from $l,OOO up to $12,000
I suggest you contact The Antique

This photo is of a whale oil lamp
found in the loft of a log cabin built
in approximately 11776-78. I am
interested in value and where to
sellit.
My research shows that your
whale oil lamp was probably
made by the Sandwich Glass
Company-1827-35. The font is of
molded white glass made at that
lime. However, there is no brass
collar that lowers the price.
However, it could sell at auc
tion for $7OO or more. Contact
American Glass expert Stephen
Fletcher, Skinner Galleries, 63
Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116.
Send detailed description.
This painted china basket be
longed to my late grandmother who
died in 1937.
On the bottom , marked in green
and brown is “TV” and “Limoges,
France.
The kidney-shaped basket has a
pearlized interior and exterior
painted flowers.
What can you tell me about this
piece?
Your candy basket was hand
painted on Limoges china blank
s...possibly by one of your rela
tives, during the hand-painted
china craze around the turn of
the century. Newly appreciated,
vours could sell in a shop for
$123.
