Ken Knowles, CFE from Alberta, Canada and chair-elect of the In ternational Association of Fairs and Expositions (LAFE), has asked Dennis L. Grumbine CFE to serve as committee chair for the 2004 Agriculture Committee. lAFE has a worldwide mem bership of more than 3,200 fairs and expositions. The planners of the event PASS To Survey Cattle Farmers HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) How have the current prices for cattle and milk affected the state’s inventory? The Pennsylva nia Agriculture Statistics Service (PASS) will be surveying approx imately 1,600 cattle farmers for its largest cattle survey of the year starting Dec. 30 and ending on Jan. 12,2004. This survey will give the most accurate pic ture of the cattle situa tion for the entire year. Estimates made will include the total num ber of cattle and calves as of Jan. 1, 2004, as well as the total heif ers, steers, milk cows, and beef cows. Pennsylvania farm ers had 1,630,000 cat tle and calves on hand on Jan. 1, down 10,000 head from the Jan. 1 2002 level, according to PASS. During 2002, 28,000 Pennsylvania opera tions had cattle and calves, unchanged from the previous year. There were 9,900 farms that had milk cows, 400 less than 2001. There were 11,200 farms with beef cows, 100 more than 2001. Dennis Grumbine, vice chair man, will assume the chairman position during the annual lAFE Convention in Las Vegas, Nev. Dec. 3. As chairman of the Agri culture Committee, Grumbine will oversee a committee of more than 30 representatives from not only North America but several foreign countries.
