Envision Honors Warwick Leaders
LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.)
On Wednesday evening, War
wick Township leaders were rec
ognized for their transfer of de
velopment rights (TDR) program
at the first Envision Lancaster
County Leadership Awards pre
sentation here at F&M College.
The award, presented by Com
missioner Paul Thibault, recog
nizes the program for using
TDRs, which have enabled the
township working with land
owners, developers, Lancaster
Farmland Trust, and Lancaster
County Ag Preserve Board to
encourage industrial develop
ment within a designated growth
area while protecting farms and
farming within rural areas of the
township.
More than 600 acres have been
preserved to date. Warwick is the
first township in Lancaster Coun
ty to complete the cycle of pur
chase of development rights from
farmers, according to Envision,
which includes the sale of rights
to a developer for use in the
township’s industrial receiving
zone and the preservation of ad
ditional farmland with the cash
generated by the sale.
“Now that’s Lancaster Coun
ty,” said Thibault.
