Blue Valley Farm Show Conducts Beef Show

Gary Dean, Lancaster, judged
the dairy beef, beef breeding and
market steer shows at the East
ern Pennsylvania 4-H Livestock
Show and Sale during the Blue
Valley Farm Show. Dean, a Penn
State University graduate, is the
Business Development Manager
at Purina Mills.
Starting with the 4-H and
Open Beef Fitting and Showman
ship competition, Dean selected
Jennifer Hower as the 4-H cham
pion fitter and showman. Hower,
daughter of Ned and Linda
Hower, Bethlehem, is a recent
graduate of Nazareth High
School and is attending North
ampton County Community Col
lege working towards a major in
elementary and special educa
tion.
Going to the intermediate divi
sion for his reserve 4-H fitter and
showman Dean selected Elena
Poliskiewicz, daughter of Phil
Jennifer Hewer, Bethlehem, is shown with her champi
on market steer of the Eastern Pennsylvania 4-H Live
stock Show and Sale during the Blue Valley Farm Show.

The champion fitter and show
man titles in the open beef com
petition went to Gwen Wagner,
Danielsville, with Hower follow
ing in the reserve fitter and show
man spot.
In the market steer competi
tion Dean selected the 1,175
pound entry of Gwen Wagner as
his champion of the open divi
sion. Describing the champion
from the heavy weight class Dean
liked the way the steer was bal
anced and uniform with more
natural thickness making the ani
mal the most complete of the
competition. Following in the re
serve champion spot was Wag
ner’s son, Paul, with his 1,030
pound entry described as well
balanced from side and behind
and following the type of the
champion.
Jennifer Hower saw her 1,120
pound entry from the heavy
weight class tapped as the cham
pion of the 4-H market steer
competition. The reserve champi-

on title went to Elena Poliskie
wicz and her 1,035 pound bred
and owned entry. This entry of
Poliskiewicz also received the
champion bred and owned ban
ner of the show.
Moving on to the beef breeding
competition Dean named the
Oct. 2001 senior yearling of
Hower, Kruegers Erica 76L as
the champion 4-H and Open
Angus heifer with Bower’s Feb.

mer yearling entry then moved
into the reserve champion 4-H
and Open Sinunental heifer spot.
Jesse Poliskiewicz then re
ceived the champion and reserve
champion rosettes of the Open
competition for his cow/calf en
tries.
The supreme champion bull
title went to Elena Poliskiewicz
for her Dec. 2002 Sinunental fall
bull entry. Hower went home
with the supreme champion heif
er and cow/calf honors with
Elena Poliskiewicz capturing the
reserve supreme heifer rosette.
Jesse Poliskiewicz received the
reserve supreme cow/calf award.
Finishing the night with the
dairy beef competition Dean se
lected Bryan Dietrich from the
intermediate division as his
champion fitter. Reserve fitter
honors went to Diana Holder.
As his champion showman
Dean selected Holder with Step
hanie Brewer named the reserve
champion showman.

As his champion dairy beef
Dean selected the 556 pound
entry of Dietrich from the heavy
weight class. The champion was
described as being more naturally
balanced and cleaner throughout
the lower third. Following closest
in type as reserve champion was
the 532 pound entry of Diana
Holder from the medium weight
class.
