The quality of the two-day sale was below aver

has brought the price of the average Choice and

Tuesday's closing, at 97.17. The boxed beef
market has made slight moves on both sides of
steady through Tuesday, with Choice cuts at
around 169 00. If prices were to plateau at the
current levels it would be a victory for feeders,
but would come to the packers dislike. The
slaughter Holstein and heifer offerings were
both very light in Vintage, and a trend was
never established. Lean slaughter cows sold
weak to .50 lower, with the fleshier cows trend
ing 1.00-3.00 lower; mostly 2.00-3.00 lower.
Slaughter bulls sold mostly 2.00 lower on a light
test. The combined two-day run included 201

Compared to last Thursday, slaughter steers
sold fully 3 00-5.00 higher in active trading;
when this week's weighted averages are com
pared to last weeks prices are as much as 6.00
higher. Bidding was active for the entirety of
the auction as receipts continue to come in pret
ty light, as there were less than 400 head on
offer The quality is also suffering, as there are
not very many packages of high Choice and
Prime cattle available, there are not even a
whole lot of hard-fed singles available for that
matter Just as soon as the finished market be
gins to show some sings of stabilizing, it is
thrown right back into the mixer. The majority
of the Western cattle complex moved cattle
with dressed sales 5.00 higher from
165.00-167.00 The Board responded on Thurs
day with limit-up gains from spot November to
spot February, with closing bids from
91.50-99.90 respectively. The meat market was
not heavily affected by the higher finished
movement, with the Choice cutout from
169.80-169.91 on Thursday night. The slaughter
Holstein run was light on Thursday in New
Holland, and a trend was not established.
Slaughter heifers sold 2.00-4.00 higher when
compared to last week. Lean slaughter cows
sold 1.50 to 2.50 higher than last week and a
full 5.00 higher than early in the week. Fleshy
cows sold mostly 2.00 to 3.00 higher than last
Thrusday's sale and 4.00 to 5.00 higher than
early week sales. Slaughter bulls sold steady to
2.00 higher. The supply included 375 head of
slaughter steers, 80 head of slaughter heifers,
579 head of slaughter cows, 136 head of slaugh
ter bulls, with 320 head of feeder cattle.
Note; A weighted average report for the
