Champions Top Both Open And 4-H Blue Valley Dairy Shows
DEANNA CUNFER
Carbon Co. Correspondent
BANGOR (Northampton Co.)
The Open and 4-H dairy shows
were recently conducted during
the Blue Valley Farm Show,
Bangor. The comment usually
heard at livestock shows about “a
different day and different judge
gives different results" didn’t
quite hold true for the open and
4-H competitions this year. The
4-H Jersey and Holstein shows
are scheduled for the morning
after the Open Jersey and Hol
stein shows with each day having
their own judge. It was obvious
that quality shines through as the
same animals were selected as
senior and grand champions on
both days.
Rick Hess, Lancaster County,
judged the Open dairy show.
Working in agribusiness for Hess
Mills Purina he is a graduate
of Penn State University where
he majored in dairy science.
Starting with the Jersey show
Hess selected the spring calf
entry of Krissa Brewer, the
March 2003 Bryncoed Hadyn
Humphrey, as the junior champi
on. Hess described the daughter
of DJF Berretta Hadyn as being
very upstanding with good spring
of fore rib and top. Brewer, 10, is
the daughter of Jeff and Tammy
Brewer of Brewer Farms, Bang
or, and is in the fifth grade at De-
Franco Elementary School.
Stacy Brewer than saw her
Feb. 2003 winner of the winter
calf class tapped for the junior re
serve champion rosette. Brew-
Line Mor Pepsi, a daughter of
Wilsonview Khan Morgan ET
was described as having good
substance of bone by Hess. Stacy,
10-year-old daughter of Kevin
and Lori Brewer of Brewer
Farms, Bangor, is in the fifth
grade at DeFranco Elementary
School.
Stacy then topped the senior
division of the Open Jersey show
with her Dec. 1999 KL Topkick
Precious, a daughter of AV Les-.
ter Topkick ET. Hess de
scribed the senior and grand
champion as being an upstanding
individual with a desirable mam
mary system.
Reserve senior and reserve
grand champion Open Jersey
honors went to Brittany Brewer’s
March 2000 KL Shane Bitzy,
daughter of Schultz Lester
Shane. Brittany, 7, is the daugh
ter of Jeff and Tammy Brewer,
Bangor, and in the second grade
at Washington Elementary
School.
For his junior champion of the
Open Holstein competition Hess
selected Laura Kromer’s March
2003 Vall-Haven Theo Carly,
winner of the spring calf class
and daughter of Hartline Aeros
tar Theo. Hess liked the style,
balance, and cleanness of bone of
this heifer. A junior member
Kromer is the daughter of Dave
and Terri Kromer.
Judge Rich Hess, second from left, gestures to audi

of the Open Holstein dairy show at Blue Valley Farm
Show. From left: Jill Koehler with the reserve senior and
reserve grand champion owned by Brittany Brewer; Step
hanie Brewer with her senior and grand champion; Kevin
Brewer with Krissa Brewer’s reserve junior champion;
and Laura Kromer with her junior champion.

ley Farm Show are shown with Judge Rick Hess. From

serve grand champion and Stacy Brewer, 10, with her
senior and grand champion.
The reserve junior champion
rosette went to Krissa Brewer’s
March 2003 Brew-Line Eland
Rene from the same class de
scribing the reserve grand cham
pion as being very stylish.
Moving into the senior division
Hess selected the tall upstanding
3- of Stephanie Brewer,
12. Brew-Line Bestow Jangle,
Dec. 1999 daughter of Merit Be
stow ET, then moved on to
capture the grand champion Hol
stein rosette for Brewer. Stepha
nie is the daughter of Kevin and
Lori Brewer, Bangor, and in the
seventh grade at Bangor Middle
School.
Reserve senior and reserve
grand champion Holstein honors
went to Brittany Brewer’s
4- Just-Mi-Style Patron
Sugar. The May 1999 daughter of
Brabant Star Patron ET was
described by Hess as being a
flashy cow with lots of dairyness
over the top.
Supreme female honors of the
Open dairy show went to Stepha
nie Brewer’s champion Holstein
with the reserve supreme rosette
going to the Jersey champion of
Stacy Brewer.
The next morning Warren
Buckman, Bucks County dairy
man, breeder, and showman
judged the 4-H dairy show.
Stacy Brewer exhibited the
junior champion of the Jersey
show, Brew-Line Cosmo Prin
cess. The Jan. 2002 winter year
ling, a daughter of Barbs MBSB
Cosmo ET, was described by
Buckman as being long, tall, and
having plenty of strength
throughout.
Reserve junior honors went to
the April 2002 spring yearling of
Dakoda Finken, 12-year-old son
of Melissa Finken of Finken
Farms near Pen Argyl. Finken is
in the seventh grade at Wind
Gap Middle School. The reserve
junior champion, Brycoed Richey
Jersey, is a daughter of Twin
Haven Montana Richey ET.
Repeating her success from
last night’s open dairy show sen
ior Jersey and grand champion
honors went to Stacy Brewer’s
KL Topkick Precious, a daughter
of AV Lester Topkick ET.
Buckman describe this Dec. 1999
cow as being a handy winner that
was obviously milking well and
doing her part producing for the
herd.
Stephanie Brewer then walked
her June 2001 daughter of Molly
Brook Berretta Flyer ET,
Brew-Line Berretta Diamond,
into the reserve senior and re
serve grand champion spot.
The dam and daughter class
was won by Stacy Brewer’s senior
and junior champions.
Buckman thfen reviewed the
Holstein entries of the 4-H dairy
show selecting the Dec. 2002 win
ter calf of Laura Kromer as his
junior champion. Afton-Springs
Webster Judy, daughter of Delta
Webster ET, was described as
being long with plenty of body,
being very correct in the rump
with a correct set of legs and feet.
Reserve junior honors went to
Brew-Line Grandslam Snowflak,
a Nov. 2001 daughter of J-L-G
Grandslam ET, exhibited by
Krissa Brewer and described by
the judge as being a real nice
heifer with lots of size and
strength and having beautiful
udder promise.
Also repeating her success
from the previous evening’s Open
dairy show Stephanie Brewer’s
Dec. 1999 Brew-Line Bestow
Jangle then captured the senior
and grand champion Holstein
honors of the 4-H dairy show. A
daughter of Merit Bestow ET
Brewer’s champion was de
scribed by Buckman as having
Judge Warren Buckman with the senior
and grand champions of the 4-H Jersey
show at Blue Valley Farm Show, Bangor.

more balance and strength in her
front end with plenty of depth of
rib.
Reserve senior and reserve
grand champion honors went to
Stacy Brewer’s Oct. 2000 Scot
tian Cels Flair, a daughter of
Etazon Celsius ET. Buckman
said anyone that milks must ap
preciate this cow feeling it was
hard to beat the udder on this
oustanding 2-year-old.
Earlier in the 4-H competition
Buckman selected Stacy Brewer
as his champion fitter from the
intermediate class with Stephanie
Brewer, winner of the senior divi
sion earning the reserve fitter
award.
Stephanie then received the re
serve showman award with Kris
sa Brewer from the junior divi
sion being selected as Buckman’s
choice for champion showman
honors.
