the frost. This year I only have
some 70 on windowsills all over
the house. My two bay windows
hold the biggest pots. I even
transplant some blooming impa

Last week I brought our grand
daughter home from a soccer
game so that her father could
work longer in the fields. He has
filled a silo with a soybean and
alfalfa mixture. Now a custom
operator is trying to put the corn
in a bigger silo. He can cut six
rows at a time, but has trouble
getting the corn that the wind
blew down.

Last week I heard from two
distant cousins. The one person I
had not seen for several years. In
fact, I knew her father better
than I knew her even though she
lives in the county. Her sister’s

This year I don’t have sweet
potatoes but I do have a lot of
squash. Some butternut ones are
small while others are quite large.
The acorn squash are small this
year. Often I use the neck of the
squash for slicing and then fry it
in a pan. Other times I mash it
after cooking it and use it for pies
the same as a pumpkin.
There is always something to
keep me busy and that is the way
that I like it as I cannot just sit
and read.

nuts are wasted as they are in
wooded areas.
