Prime slaughter steers sold sharply higher from
122.00-125.00, 20.00 higher than last week,
however mostly steady to weak with Tuesday.
Choice steers also sold sharply higher, marking
15.00 advances; while high Select and low
Choice sold mostly 10.00 higher. Holstein steers
continued the upward trend trading nearly
20.00 higher at 113.50, on a very light supply.
High Choice and Prime slaughter heifers mir
rored their male counterparts trading up 20.00,
however lighter conditioned offerings showed
lesser advances. Lean slaughter cows sold 2.75
to 4.00 higher than last Thursday; while fleshier
cows sold mostly 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Slaughter
bulls sold 2.00-5.00 higher. The supply included
645 head of slaughter steers, 114 head of
slaughter heifers, 577 head of slaughter cows,
111 head of slaughter bulls, with 299 head of
feeder cattle.

Calves; Compared to last Thursday, slaugh
ter calves sold mostly steady. There was 340
head of bulls in the overall graded run that will
see a kill floor in the near future, which goes to
show demand is still very high. Holstein bull
calves going info special-fed veal bams sold
sharply lower on all grades. Graded Number
One bull calves sold 30.00-40.00 to as much as
60.00 lower on middle to heavy weight calves.
Number Two calves also showed losses of 20.00-
40.00 on middle to heavy weight calves. Hol
stein heifers sold significantly higher than last
week on a light supply, topping out at 620.00.
The PA Department of Agriculture graded 744
head of bulls for the graded sale, with an esti
mated 54 percent of the graded run going into
veal bams.

This week in Lancaster County, slaughter
steers, heifers, and Holstein steers sold sharply
higher all week, with prices as much as 20.00
higher. The real bell ringer was at the Vintage
Sales Stables on Tuesday when a 200 head run
was as high as 132,50. Prices spreads were ex
tremely large over the week, especially early, as
prices were going higher by the hour. Slaughter
cows sold from 2.00 higher to as much as 7.00
higher. Slaughter bulls sold 2.00-S.OO higher.
The cattle supply this week in Lancaster Coun
ty included 1015 slaughter steers, 154 slaughter
heifers, 1158 slaughter cows, 184 slaughter
bulls, and 845 head of feeder cattle.
