Pennsylvania National Horse Show Presents Top Horses In Competition, Exhibition The HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) Nearly 1,200 of the best American and international show horses will gather at the newly expanded Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg for the 58th annual Pennsylvania National Horse Show, Oct. 9-18. In addition to competition for nearly a dozen national champi onships and more than $325,000 in prize money, the show features special attractions including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the World Famous Budweis er Clydesdales, horse related shopping, equine attractions, children’s activities, and more. The world-renowned Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musi cal Ride will perform nightly Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 15-18. The Musical Ride consists of the execution of a va riety of intricate figures and cav alry drill performed to music by 32 matched horses and riders. In addition to enjoying the RCMP’s coordination, control and timing in the arena, the Mountics wel come visitors in the stabling area between shows. Another crowd favorite, the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales will present then eight horse hitch of thundering draft horses nightly, Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 15-18. The Pennsylvania National Horse Show is America’s largest indoor all-breed horse show. Since its inception in 1945, the event has raised nearly $1.5 mil lion for youth literacy, education al, and recreational programs through the Harrisburg Kiwanis Youth Foundation and the Penn sylvania National Horse Show Foundation. The event’s highlight is the $65,000 Budweiser Grand Prix de Penn National, Saturday night, Oct. 18. All four members of the U.S. Equestrian Team which re cently won the Gold Medal at the Pan American Games in the Do minican Republic are expected to compete, along with top profes sionals from across the U.S. and beyond. These leading riders, who spend nearly a week at the show contesting a number of horses, open each evening ses sion, Tuesday through Saturday, Oct. 14-18, with a jumper class. The show begins with four days of competition for junior riders under age 18. Eleven na tional championships are decided at the PNHS. On Sunday, Oct. 12, more than 200 young eques trians ride for hunter equitation’s pinnacle, the prestigious USAE/ Pessoa National Hunter Seat Eq uitation Medal Finals. And for the second year, the Pennsylva nia National Horse Show will host the ‘Good Hands’ National Saddle Seat Equitation Champi onship. The PNHS is also the site of the North American League championships for adult and children’s hunters and jumpers, open jumper speed horses, and pony jumpers. The show also features more than 50 vendors from across the country. Oct. 9 to 14, general admission is $lO or $5 for seniors and chil dren ages 12 and under. Oct. 15-18, general admission is $l5.
