Compared to Thursday, Monday sales were a
full 1.00-2.00 higher, but only paved the way for
an extremely active Tuesday sale. High Choice
and Prime steers were as high as 104.00 on
Tuesday, although all grades showed good ad
vances as prices were as much as 5.00 higher.
Granted, receipts were light, although numbers
of good hard-fed cattle are becoming sparse
across the country. They are so hard to find in
fact, that the Nebraska direct feedyards moved
their black-hided steers 4.00-7.00 higher from
97.00- 00 on Tuesday, with pens up to 100.00,
with dressed sales from 150.00-155.00, or
5.00- higher. The Board did all it could over
the last couple of days to align with the higher
cash trade, with two days of limit-up gains leav
ing the October spot live cattle contract at
92.82 The meat markets had no choice but to
respond as well, with Choice cutouts over
161.00 again, and Select cuts over 129.00; all of
which is over 3.00 higher. Holstein steers in
Vintage were as high as 90.00, which are 4.00
higher, with the heifer run to light to test.
Slaughter cows were 2.00-4.00 higher, with the
cow carcass cutout value 2 66 higher on Tues
day There were not enough slaughter bulls to
test the market The two-day run included an
estimated 238 head of slaughter steers, 35
slaughter heifers, 401 slaughter cows, 12 slaugh
ter bulls, and 37 head of feeder cattle.
The Vintage Sales Stables will be holding a
special feeder cattle sale on Monday October the
13th, set to begin around IKK) pm. There are al
ready some nice black cattle consigned out of
Maryland, with a fairly good overall selection
expected
