Nichol Awarded 2003 All-American Dairy Show Pioneer Award HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The All-American Dairy Show has awarded William Nichol of State College the 2003 All-American Pioneer Award in recognition of his years of dedi cation and service to the show. In the early 1960 s Nichol, along with the late Cuthbert Naim Sr. and other dairy enthu siasts, had a dream to institute a national dairy show in Pennsyl vania in order to invite the nation and other areas to bring their cat tle to Harrisburg to compete with the quality cattle bred in this state. In 1964, the first Pennsyl vania All-American Dairy Show Youth Dairy Contest Results Announced HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) 100 individuals representing 32 teams from 4-H, FFA, and collegiate programs across the United States participated in the Invitation Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest on Sept. 22. Nichol, along with other breed representatives and agribusiness personnel, had been working ap proximately seven to eight years making necessary arrangements to institute this national show in Pennsylvania. Nichol helped to raise money from sponsors and supporters. He was a member of the first All-American Board of Directors as the Holstein breed representative. He helped to cre ate the positions with a represen tative from each of the six dairy breeds along with two from the Pennsylvania Dairy and Allied rankings: 1. Nichol was served on the com mittee establishing the rules and regulations for the All-American Dairy Show and was instrumen tal in developing the “Herd Unit” option for entering cattle in the show. In 1999, Nichol was influ ential in obtaining the necessary funds to increase the premiums offered to exhibitors. In 2000, the All-American Dairy show offered the highest premiums paid than any other national dairy show. He has been a member of the group responsible for the division of premium increments and has worked to keep the budget bal anced. Also in 2000, he was one of the enthusiasts that encouraged other board and dairy industry persons to change the name of the show by dropping the “Penn- KILE To Feature Contests HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The 26th Annual Key- stone Stockman’s Contest, a youth activity in the program of the Keystone International Live stock Expo (KILE) Show, is scheduled, Monday, Oct. 6. The contest is open to all 4-H and FFA members between the ages of 13 and 19. Each county or chapter is invited to enter one or more teams of three or four members. These members will also compete as individuals.
