Compared to Thursday, Lean slaughter cows
sold steady to mostly LOO lower. Fleshier (65-85
percent lean) cows sold fully 1.00 lower, to
mostly 2.00 lower. Buyer demand and attend-
ance were both light at the early week run. The
quality of the run was comprised of mainly av
erage to plain quality Lean cows.
Slaughter bulls sold mostly 1.00-4.00 lower
The cattle supply included 198 head of slaugh
ter cows, 48 slaughter bulls, S 3 slaughter steers,
21 slaughter heifers, with 101 head of feeder
cattle.
Note; The New Holland Sales Stables will be
holding a special feeder cattle sale on Friday
September the 26th at 6:00 pm. There is ex
pected to be several nice consignments of feed
ers on offer.

Sheep and Lambs; Compared to last Monday,
slaughter lambs sold mostly steady. Lambs
under 50 lbs continue to be scarce, with 50-70
lbs lambs in short supply. Demand for 90-120
lbs lambs was very cyclic, with what started as
heavy demand moved down hill with a
S.OO-7.00 price shift from beginning to end of
the sale. Slaughter sheep sold steady on a mod-
erate supply, while slaughter bucks and year
lings were not well tested.

Compared to Thursday, a mixed run of
slaughter steers sold steady to weak on Monday.
The Tuesday run was made up of 85 head of
steers, therefore the light market was not well
tested. However, there was definitely a lower
undertone noted. The better-fed steers are still
able to bring in the 90‘s, but the bottom end of
the Choice cattle seem to be slipping back into
the upper 80‘s; although the market is still miles
ahead of where it was this time a year ago.
Holstein steers sold with a lower undertone as
well, with slaughter heifers trading steady to .50
higher. Slaughter cows sold 3.00-5.00 lower,
with a light run of slaughter bulls trading

Calves: Compared to last Tuesday's sale,
slaughter calves sold mostly steady. Graded
Holstein bull calves suitable for special fed veal
bams sold steady to weak, with the exception of
middle weight (85-100 lbs) Graded Number
Two bulls trading steady to firm. Graded Hol
stein Heifer calves sold mostly steady to sharply
higher on weights between 90-105 lbs, topping
out at 670.00.
Bidding was active with good buyer attend
ance. The Pennsylvania Department of Agricul
ture graded 832 head of heifers and bulls for the
sale, with an estimated 76 percent of the graded
run going back to feed.
