Maryland & Virginia Co-Op Awards Scholarships RESTON, Va. Maryland & Virginia Milk Pro ducers recently awarded more than $13,000 in scholarships to 19 member students pursuing ca reers in the dairy industry. The cooperative pre sented three levels of scholarships including $l,OOO, $750, and $5OO for the upcoming 2003 school year. Scholarship winners were selected based on their future plans and goals, academic performance, fi nancial need and extracurricular activities. $l,OOO Scholarship Recipients • Jennifer Bechtel of Martinsburg is the daughter of Jerry and Joan Bechtel. Jennifer will be a fresh man majoring in Agriculture & Extension Educa tion at Penn State University this fall. She is a long time member of 4-fJ, FFA and her high school track and field and swim teams. Jennifer plans to pursue a career teaching agriculture or working in commu nications. • Jennifer Herbst will be a sophomore majoring in Dairy Science at Delaware Valley College this fall. Her parents are David and Betty Herbst of Smiths burg, Md. Jennifer has been a member of 4-H, FFA and the Maryland Junior Holstein Club for several years, and is an accomplished dairy cattle judge. He will be a freshman this fall majoring in animal science at Penn State. Scott has held many leadership posi tions in 4-H, FFA, National Honor Society, chorus and school track. He plans to attend vet school after graduation and eventually become a partner in his family’s farm. • Greta Moyer of Mercersburg is the daughter of Glenn and Evelyn Moyer. She will be a freshman majoring in Dairy Science at Virginia Tech this fall. Greta is an active member of FFA, chorus, and her church. She has won several dairy cattle judging awards and public speaking contests. Greta is pur suing a future career with a dairy or breeding coop erative after college. • Allison Waggoner will be a freshman majoring in animal science with a dairy science minor at Clemson University this fall. From Pendleton, S.C., Allison is the daughter of Steve and Kitty Wag goner. She has been an active participant in the state Jersey and Holstein cattle clubs as well as the local 4-H club and FFA chapter.
