Orthman’s Folding 1900 Series Stacking Planter Bar.
Orthman Introduces
1900 Planter Toolbar
LEXINGTON, Neb. Orth
man Manufacturing has intro
duced the all new folding 1900
Series Stacking Planter Bar. The
60-foot wide toolbar is designed
to handle 24 row 30-inch or 18
row 38/40-inch planter configu
rations.
For transport, the outer wings
hydraulically fold forward 180
degrees before stacking to create
the industry’s most advanced
toolbar. In addition to narrow
transport, the innovative design
allows the operator to move to
the next field without emptying
11 Technology Awards
COLUMBUS, Ohio Bat
tellc and the national laborator
ies it manages or co-manages for
the U.S. Department of Energy
won 11 awards in R&D Maga
zine’s prestigious annual R&D
100 Awards.
The awards, considered the
Oscars of the technology world,
recognized the most significant
scientific and technological
achievements for 2002.
Battelle and the labs it man
ages or co-manages have re
ceived 117 of these awards since
1969. The 2003 winners will be
recognized in an October cere
mony in Chicago, where R&D
Magazine is based.
“We’re very proud to have
earned this recognition from
R&D Magazine and our peers,”
ABS Global
Sponsors J.L. Lush Award
DEFOREST, Wis. ABS
Global recently sponsored the
2003 J.L. Lush Award in Animal
Breeding Research which was
presented to Dr. Bennet G. Cas

“Sponsoring this award is one
way that ABS can give back to
those individuals providing the
research critical to genetic ad
vancements in the dairy indus
try,” said Marjorie Faust,
director of ABS external re
search. “Bennet’s work in im
proving the dairy industry has
been extraordinary.”

seed boxes.
To achieve maximum maneu
verability, the 1900 Series
Planter Toolbar is “semi
mounted” to the tractor. This
provides the maneuverability of
a 3-point mounted machine
while achieving the wide work
ing width previously only attain
able with a pull-type planter.
Lifting gauge wheels reduce
overall transport length in addi
tion to minimizing the tongue
weight carried by the tractor.
The 1900 Series Planter Tool
bar will be on display at farm
shows this fall.
Battelle Receives
said Battelle President and CEO
Carl Kohrt. “The focus of the
R&D 100 Awards, like Bat
telle’s, is on practical and com
mercially viable solutions and
products that come from ap
plied science and technology.
Receiving an R&D 100 Award is
one of the finest honors we could
receive.”
In the past, the R&D 100
Awards have recognized prod
ucts from throughout the U.S.
and the world that later became
household names, including the
flashcube (1965), the automated
teller machine (1973), the halo
gen lamp (1974), the fax ma
chine (1975), the liquid crystal
display (1980), the Kodak Photo
CD (1991), the Nicoderm an
