LIGHTS; The market tone on 8-16 lb
hens and 16-24 lb toms was fully steady.
Inquiry moderate for current and de
ferred shipments. Sales were reported on
light volumes of private label hens and
toms for prompt shipment. Offerings are
light to adequate. Parts and meats under
tone remains fully steady to firm. Offer
ings mixed ranging from adequate to
tight.
EXPORT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS:
Trading was light and centered on tom
drums and full-cut wings. Offerings are
less than adequate for current needs and
held with confidence. Demand fairly good
with a steady to firm undertone.

week ending September 12 will increase
by 3 percent. Present week purchases for
the week ending Sept. 5 were 246,751
cases which was 11 percent above the
prior week and 8 percent above estimates.

—down 14%, TOTAL: 246,751 up 11%.
Comparison figures are compiled on a
matched plant basis. Purchases and esti
mates by 15 cooperators; 30 dozen cases
or equivalent.

Mostly prices were unchanged on
whites, unchanged to higher on sugar
yolks, but unchanged to slightly lower on
salt yolk and whole when compared to
the previous week’s trading. Trade senti
ment was steady to fully steady. Demand
was moderate with offerings often report
ed as in close balance to short of needs.
Liquid and frozen eggs (ingredients in
cluded) processed under federal inspec
tion in the Eastern region for the week
ending 30 August 2003 were 6% more
than the previous week, and 3% more
than a year ago.

Trade sentiment was fully steady to
firm in the Northeast, steady elsewhere.
Retail demand was light to moderate, best
where featured. Food service was moder
ate to fairly good, best for fast for promo
tions. Supplies were balanced to well
cleared and trading at premium levels in
the East; in the remaining areas, avail
ability was sufficient. In the parts struc
ture, wings and tenders were close to tight
and moving well, and all other parts were
adequate or obtainable. In production
areas, live supplies were moderate at ir
regular weights.

In New York, prices were 1 cent higher
on medium and unchanged on the bal
ance of sizes. Prices in Chicago were un
changed. The market tone was steady.
Demand was light to fairly good, best
where limited features were in progress.
Supplies were in good balance to suffi
cient for present trade needs. Breaking
stock offerings were usually adequate for
the light to good demand. Light type hens
were fully sufficient to ample for the light
to fair demand.

was moderate. Demand was moderate.
Live supplies were moderate for plant
needs with an estimated slaughter of
1,374,000 compared to 1,320,000 last
Tuesday. Weights were desirable. Pro
cessing schedules were moderate. Supply
and demand of wings was moderate.
Negotiated F. 0.8. dock prices, 2
pounds and heavier ice-packed broilers
and fryers, trucklot sales of US Grade A
or equivalent were steady to higher at .58
- .66 per pound; less than trucklot sales
.56 - .71 per pound.
Trucklot buying activity was fair to
fairly good during midweek trading. Of
ferings of breast items were adequate to
balanced with bone-in breasts noted in the
best position. Dark meat cuts were clear
ing very well. Wings and tenderloins re
mained in tight balance. Movement
through retail and distributive channels
was moderate to fairly good with feature
activity providing the best draw. The
market tone was steady on boneless-skin
less breasts, fully steady to instances firm
bone-in breasts, wings and tenderloins;
fully steady on the balance.
