This week in Lancaster County, slaughter
steers sold 1.00-2.00 higher early in the week. At
the Thursday sale, there were over 750 head of
finished steers on offer. High Choice and Prime
slaughter steers sold 3.00-5.00 higher, with
Choice steers bom 4.00-6.00 higher. Prices con
tinue to climb in the County, as well as across
the country. The western direct feedyards
moved the bulk of their live cattle several dol
lais higher from mostly 88.00-91.00 early this
week, with dressed sales from 140.00-145.00.
This week in Lancaster County there was a few
head of steers that sold for 100.00, but what is
even more impressive is when the 1400-1490
pounders bring from 96.00-98.00; or up to
1460.00 per head. The spot September feeder
cattle contract at the CME closed at 100.37 on
Thursday, with feeder contracts through Au
gust of 2004 in the 90‘s and high 80‘s. The Sep
tember live cattle contract closed at 90.65 on
Thursday, with both nearby and future con
tracts both predicting a continued bullish run.
The Choice cutout value is ranging from
around 157.00-158.00, with the Select cutout at
mostly 139.00 as it holds a 18.00-19.00 discount
to the Choice cuts. Local slaughter Holstein
steers sold as much as 5.00 higher, with a good
lest of slaughter heifers late in the week trading
3.00-5.00 higher. Lean slaughter cows sold
mostly steady to 3.00 higher, with late week
