Christopher Utz, 14, is the son of
Deb and Dennis Utz, Limeboro,
Md. Christopher, in the ninth
grade at North Carroll High
School, exhibited a crossbred
wether, his first champion.
Reserve champion exhibitor
Morgan Meisenheimer, 12, is the
daughter of Millie Meisenheimer,
Mount Airy. Morgan exhibited a
crossbred wether, “Buddy.” Mor
gan is in the seventh grade at
New Market Middle School.
In market goat competition,
champion was exhibited by
Claire Bennett and sold for $5
per pound originally to Dick
Byrne, Maryland 4-H program
leader. The goat was then resold
for $4.75 per pound to Andy
Cashman, assistant general man
ager of the Maryland State Fair.
Reserve, exhibited by Aaron
Lantz, was sold for $5.25 per
pound to Farm Credit of Virgin-

Champion Claire Bennett ex
hibited her crossbred doe, “Ivy,”
a homebred named because of its
Christmas Day birth, she said.
Claire, 12, is the daughter of
Bruce and Kate Bennett, Union
Bridge, Md.
Claire noted she raises “really
nice goats” and takes time to
make sure they get proper exer
cise. Claire noted she raised last
year’s grand champion at the
fair.
Reserve champion Aaron
Lantz, 9, is the son of William
and Arlene Lantz, Oakland. This
was his first time as champion,
with a wether. Aaron said he is in
the fourth grade at Yough Glaeds
Elementary School.
The champion rabbit was ex
hibited by Brittany Cusic and
sold for $llO to the Maryland
Foods Pavilion, represented by
Stan Dabkowski. Reserve, exhibi
ted by Sean Baker, sold for $l2O
to Craig Oliver. The reserve was
then resold for $lOO to Robin
Keyser.
