About 116 animals went on sale Sunday night here at the Maryland State Fair. About 218 buyers registered at the start of thj sale. Grand c'iampion beef, exhibi ted by Jacob Wolfrey, Frederick, Md., sold for $3 per pound to Greg Deggeller of Deggeller At tractions. Reserve champion beef, exhibited by Randi Rodeheaver, was sold to Stony Brook Devel opment, represented by Lou Strosnider, for $3.70 per pound. Grand champion exhibitor Jacob Wolfrey, 18, is the son of Dan and Judy Wolfrey, Freder ick. The 2003 Sherando High School graduate exhibited a 1,291-pound Angus/Chianina crossbred. Jacob said he pur chased the animal from a private sale in Illinois. This was Jacob’s first champi on at the Maryland Fair. He shows at the Frederick County Fair in Maryland. Reserve championßandi Ro deheaver, 16, is the daughter of Donald and Sharon Rodeheaver, McHenry, Md. Randi, a junior at Northern Garrett High School, exhibited at the fair for her first time and picked up her first champion. Pearce Norris purchased the 1,288-pound steer for $1 per pound. In market hog competition, Heather Willis, 14, won grand champion hog with her 245-pound Hampshire crossbred. The hog sold for $2.30 per pound to Mike Birch. Reserve champion hog was ex hibited by Timmy Martin, 13, Smithsburg. Jimmy Kimbles pur chased the hog for $1.70 per pound for Kimstead Farm. Heather Willis, grand champi on exhibitor, is the 14-year-old daughter of Christopher and Fran Willis, Walkersville, Md. The Walkersville High School 10th grader exhibited the medi um weight champion, a Hamp shire crossbred. Heather also ex hibits at the Frederick Fair. She purchased the hog from the Hoo- sier Sale in Ohio.
