Report Supplied By USDA
Receipts: 552 Last Week: 816 Last
Year: 1150.
Compared to last Monday, barrows
and gilts sold mostly steady on a lighter
run. Prices for the straight hogs seem to
be on a plateau as the bulk of U.S. l‘s and

high 30.00 range the past few months.
The demand for the heavy sows remains
very good, as bids are as high as 40.00. All
hogs are sold by the hundred weights.

Slaughter Pig Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
August 20,2003
Report Supplied By USDA
SLAUGHTER PIGS: Receipts: 320;
Last Week: 402; Year Ago: 320.
Compared to last week US 1-2 21-26 lb
slaughter pigs sold 20.00-40.00 lower. All
other weights within the U.S. 1-2, and
U.S. 2 supply were not well tested. How
ever, there was definitely a higher under
tone noted on the Number 2 pigs, as well
as in the no-grade and as-is supplies. Bid
ding activity was relatively good, al
though buyer attendance was light. All
pigs continue to go to slaughter as man
dated. Pigs consigned to the Wednesday
sale are graded on arrival, and sold on
their in-weights. Prices are quoted per
hundred weight.
